Lebron has spoken...and he's essentially said that Morey should do the equivalent of "shut up and dribble"

This is why they shouldn't try to take the moral high ground on issues. They contradict themselves all the time. Lebron is huge at contradicting himself

i'm failing to see why this is proving that... because you might agree or disagree from time to time?

also i can't think of a person who has a better track record of clear, concise straight line thought than Lebron when speaking publicly. For a dude without a traditional education, he's got a masters in business relations/communications. he's almost always on script.

for him to speak out on this i'd assume he realizes the magnitude of it for him financially and this is something he's willing to take some heat for.

but again, we dont need to agree with everyone all the time. its so silly. who cares what Lebron thinks.

LeBron comments on Daryl Morey’s China tweet: "I believe he wasn't educated on the situation at hand and he spoke."

pretty sure Morey is educated on the topic and spoke the truth. Guess Enes Kanter misspoke too.. Enes actually cant go home.. crazy misspeaks.

confused if you're replying to me but who said i agree or disagree with what Lebron said?

i don't agree with him but i don't think it matters that i disagree with him and think its absurd people think we are owed some moral standard by celebrities or anyone else.

Lebron was sitting in a foreign country with a militaristic regime that could have easily created int'l tension by holding those dudes hostage or restricting their ability to leave/communicate. far fetched but not impossible and being such a high profile dude, i'm sure he doesn't want that mind fuck

he could have been worried about that and the words about Morey not being educated on the topic could have been in regards to that type of ramification of his tweet.

I'd like to point out again I don't think celebrities owe us that but much like Kerr, when they speak up not just about issues, but specifically on the importance of speaking up, THAT is the issue.

A previous Lebron tweet, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere - Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about thigns that matter"

But then he also says he doesn't really want to comment on the HK situation and that Morey should have waited to make his tweet.

I think the point is pretty simple, don't say all these heroic things if you don't plan to follow up your words with consistent actions. I don't think it's wrong to be called on that in the least.

yeah i think we understand each others points.

i just don't see any issue with it other than maybe you put too much into what people say. i don't think anyone is saintly or holier than thou. when he does good things i say good on ya when he does shitty things i don't get surprised by it. i'm sure lebron does plenty of shitty things that wouldn't live up to my moral standards...but he doesn't owe me anything so i don't care

as i think about it, maybe i'm not making my point clear.

i don't think its wrong that you want to call him out or think he's being contradictory... he is being a hypocrite.

i just generally find that if you expect people to live up to your standards of living and look down or judge when they don't do what you think they 'should do' you're going to be disappointed quite often and also turn into a hypocrite yourself at some point
