Re: Robbed...
I had to buy it back because the shop cannot be held responsible for knowing it was stolen property. I'm getting the money back in 1-6 months i guess. After hes convicted and the whole process or w/e is done. I had a long conversation with the detectives. I'm getting my money back just gonna be some time. Next week I go and get my xbox stuff which the stupid bastard only got 162 bucks for. My Blu rays seem to be "missing" so who knows if I get them. And my dresser draw is in his car so they are brigning that over to me now. Which is good news since my dresser looks like it has a mental disease missing top drawer.

Re: Robbed...
I am absolutely fucking furious right now.

According to current state law, pawn shops can charge victims of crime to retrieve their stolen items from the shop. While this might appear to be a loophole, this neglect is intentional. In February 2002, House Bill 444 was introduced into the Ohio House of Representatives, which would have required pawn shops to return stolen property to its rightful owner, without charge unless a lawsuit by the pawnbroker was successful. However, this legislation was opposed by the pawn shop industry, did not make it past the Commerce and Labor Committee, and has yet to be reintroduced, although Republican Sen. Timothy J. Grendell plans to do so later this month.
But, it did not pass. It is disgraceful. I almost hate the voters as much as the government that rapes us/them.
If I were you, I'd file a civil suit against the pawn broker. Represent yourself. My best bet? He just hands you back your stuff upon beeing served; probably won't even take the full thirty.

Re: Robbed...
It's hilariously ridiculous that somebody can rob you, sell your shit to a pawn shop without any proof that they own it, and then the actual owner has to pay for their stuff back. Just a huge hole in the law.
This also brings up the importance of insurance. Home owners have it but most renters don't. Renters insurance is almost free when you tack it onto your car insurance. Get it.

Re: Robbed...
It wasn't a pawn shop. It turned out to be gamestop and some local video game store. not sure if that changes anything but just fyi. Its all good though. I get my shit back. He only got like 400 bucks for everything. (huge rip) but makes me pay less. I can afford to pay 400 bucks and get it back shortly.

Re: Robbed...
That makes it better!
That law doesn't apply to pawn shops. Here is what you do.
1. Pay for the shit.
2. Write a letter asking for restitution.
3. At the bottom of the letter - and this is important - indicate (by using CC:) that you have sent a copy to the HQ in Grapevine addressing these people: Dick Fontaine (Executive Chairman), Daniel DeMatteo (CEO), J. Paul Raines (COO), Cathy Smith (CFO); the mayor, your congressperson (and their's if you are in different districts), your local news (TV and print; contact them for the appropriate contact), your state attorney general, the Better Business Bureau, and anyone else you think would be remotely interested in this from the owner of the shopping mall it is located in to the President to the local Chamber of Commerce.
4. Mail the letter to all of these people, but send the copy to the franchise, congressperson(s), and attorney general by certified mail.
5. Wait.
6. You will either get your money back (likely in store credit) or have to press charges. Small claims court is your friend and you will be shoo-in there even if you have to go mediation. Armed with your police report (get a fucking copy of that, by the way) and this reasonable letter attempting to reconcile payment, no judge on Earth will rule against you.

Re: Robbed...
OK. I would hope so, I didn't think you were.
Me? I'd file a complaint anyway. It is the laying down when faced with confrontation that we all do that allows ridiculous laws and businesses to go crazy.
"Let's pass this law."
"Wow, Congressman, that's nuts! The people will go crazy!"
"No they won't."
"That's right! HAHAHAHAHAHHA WHOOO. Yo, add this line to it so I can get some free money!"
Ten days later. Bill passes in front of one dissenter that gets laughed at out of town hall meeting
Everyone goes to the bar and groans about it.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

You just described half the threads on the boards.Uuaww wrote:Topic Recap:

The weird ones are where it goes like this --
Topic Recap:
1. Dave hooks up with some hot girl at Halloween.
2. Everyone peruses the pictures and gives props.
3. Trendon goes apeshit on US law/cops/governement etc.
You could post about your newborn niece and Trendon would show up blowing his top about an inebriated woman that was pulled over and arrested by overbearing cops in North Dakota. It is one of the few given truths of the NDL. Usually we're all over the map on things, but you can count on Trendon to stick up for the rights of the wronged (or the guilty, but the cops should just leave people alone in any case)!
Re: Robbed...
which is pretty sweet considering now he's living in C.R.
can't wait to hear his opinions on law enforcement there
