Re: 2014 Offseason Update Thread
I had trouble but it loaded after like 10 minutes.
There are some greedy mother fuckers out there and no aces. The ones that are great pitchers are like 57 and want 6 year deals at 19mil a year. I almost fell into old Miami habits and signed one but said fuck it, we are still in the rebuilding process!!!
I did take a flyer on one of the Asians..I hope they arent flukes.

Re: 2014 Offseason Update Thread
Sitting at a coffee housewaiting for my next meeting and I had time to kill so, I came up with an analysis of a realistic structure for stadium expansion and relocation/new stadium costs.
On stadium relocation/new stadium:
The last three stadiums cost about $12M (twins), $14M (Nationals), and $9M (cardinals) per 1,000 seats.
Each stadium was gifted about anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 the cost by the city through bond issues. So assuming we use the same model, we should have about 40% of the cost covered by the city. That means that a new stadium would cost an average of $4.6M per 1,000 seats. So a new 35,000 seat facility should run around $161,000,000.
On expansion
I couldnt find any recent expansion information from MLB teams. Outside of the Red Sox who are spending close to $100M on renovations that added 475 seats and a ton of infustructure work, most of the other teams are actually making their stadiums smaller.
I did find a lot of information on expansion in college football. If we use their model we can look at 4 seperate projects to get an average cost.
- BSU recently completed a study to expand their stadium by about 20,000 seats, replacing the bleachers with in the endzone with a permanent structure. The estimated cost for expansion was $100M or $5M per 1,000 seats.
- Nebraska recently announced plan to expand Memorial Stadium (it will be the 3rd by such name in the B10 btw) by 5,000 seats for a total price of $55M. The expansion includes 2,000 luxury seats which are obviously more expensive. If we assume the seats to cost 4 time the price of general seats (they are inside, air conditioned, and have amenities like a private bar) and extract the price, we get a estimated cost of $5M per 1,000 seats ($55M / (3000 general seats + (2000 luxury suites * 4) * 1,000). The cost is comparable to the BSU figure.
- In 2009 Texas announced a deal to expand by 4,500 permanent seats at a cost of $26M. The expansion runs around $5.7M per seat.
- Alabama recently began work on a expansion of the south end zone that would increase the number of seats by 10,000. Included in the cost was the addition of 36 skyboxes. The project is projected to cost around $60M. Assuming we extract the skyboxes at a cost equal to 4 times the price of the regular seats, we would get expansion costs of $6.3M per 1000 seats ($60M / (9,964 + (4*36)) * 1000).
So we are looking at an average cost of $5.5M per 1,000 seats. Now we can examine the average funding by local municipalities in an attempt to keep their teams. Obviously, this is not the time to aks for money from the local government to fund a private project so we cannot use the historical 50% split in costs. A more resonable percentage might be 25%, specially for an expansion. So assuming the local city or state covers 25% of the cost, the average expansion cost of 1000 seats should be around $4M (its $4.125 but lets make it easier on us and call it $4M).
So the cost should be (per 1,000 seats) =
Relocation / New stadium Cost per 1000 seats = $4.6M
Expansion = $4M
What do you think?

Free wifi? I went to a Starbucks last year and they tried to sell me some card. I then got chastised by some limpdick for not having a Mac. Re: 2014 Offseason Update Thread
It was when I was getting my passport rushed and I forgot to fill out an important form. Worse, I figured I'd do the right thing and order a coffee so I don't look like one of the freeloaders. I buy one of their fucking coffees that might as well have been breakfast (I swear it had waffles in it) and I sit down ... only to find out I need to purchase internet time.nick wrote:why were you in a starbucks tho? File has been up since 6Pm so if you downloaded since then, it is a fresh file.
* Ando signed by the Oakland Raccoons for six years and over $200 million.
* Rule 5 Draft pool is up. I know I said the draft was today, but I am a fool and forgot that the draft pool being revealed might help, lol. So, today is the last day to get your lists in.
