I've tried to run that inverted veer option or whatever it's called but it's impossible to train my brain to do the opposite, to hold X and give to the RB if the Dlineman crashes.

The correct term is midline option. RB gets the midline which is the imaginary line from the football through the crack of the qbs ass.

"Inline" is not an option term, but just an alignment term. "Inline" Shotgun formations have the HB set to the side of the QB, whereas "Offset" Shotgun formations have the HB set slightly behind and to either side of the QB. Inline formations will offer more "Outside Zone Read" plays, or "Sweep" type runs. Where Offset formations offer "Inside Zone Read" plays, or more of a vertical run game like Dives or Power plays.
