It's a crazy formula with Slope, Rating, etc added in. Basically just shows you what you are compared to others, and allows you to compare your scores at different courses based on a standard system.
Takes out some of the "well it was at a hard course, so it's more like a 101 than a 105" kind of things

I'm getting the Mizuno MP 64's.

Probably the sweetest swing/feel I've held. I've wanted a set like these for quite some time.
Got my fitting scheduled for Friday morning at 8am. Never had a fitting before, but decided since I was going to be ponying up for expensive clubs, I may as well get them fit properly. Plus, since my wife works for the Tour I get a discount on special orders from the Sawgrass pro shop, along with a discount on the fitting at the TP Performance Center. No better time than now to do it.
They said it's gonna take about 3 hours, which seems long, but they do a lot of analysis with the trackman system and probably talk a bunch. Fine by me, if I gotta pay all that money, I might as well get my money's worth.
Only thing that sucks is that the clubs will likely not come in until after I leave for Senior Open, which means I'll be gone for about 20 days, then home for about 4 (try to play during that 4) and then back on the road for 10 more for Women's Open. Worst time of year, but at least I'll have something to look forward to when I get back!
Nice man. Ive been getting the itch for new clubs too, but I figured Id wait it out a couple more years before springing for a fitted set which will hopefully last me a long, long time. In reading this post I was thinking my clubs are still pretty new, but now that I think about it a bit more theyre actually about 10 years old, damn! Missing 3i and 4i from having them snap on shots near trees (lesson: Dont think you can stop the follow through). I imagine a properly fitted set would make a good bit of difference though

All this golf talk makes me want to get back out and playing...then I realized i'm laughably bad and don't have time to anyway.

I'm thinking it might make a difference. It certainly can't hurt. Figuring back, I bought those clubs in 2002. That's 13 years ago. I've kept them in good shape (I was a caddie after all, it would be shameful if I hadn't), and they were good to begin with, but the amount of golf technology changes in 13 years, added to the fact that these will be "perfectly" fit has me pretty excited.
All the years of working at courses and working for people with the newest and most expensive tech that couldn't hit the ball worth shit has made me want this pretty badly. Finally earned it.

Scrambles. Lots of drink/food, laid back atmosphere, and it really doesnt matter how you hit em. I get invited to 5 or so alumni/charity scrambles a year but only make 1-2, always a good time though

Yea, you don't even have to throw soap in there. Just water and a rag is all that's needed. You can use a brush to get into the grooves if you're really going that far. They make groove cleaning tools and all that jazz, but really just use the small end of a tee to push the mud out of there.

When's the last time you and I golfed when you lived in Orlando?
I was moreso thinking to myself that it'd be nice to get out there and just play alone, some me time!!! Then I realized there is no me time any more.
Must be nice!!!

Who else would help you find your club after you break it in half and chuck it into someone's back yard?
Yea, you need me.

the point of cleaning them is performance related right? the grooves impact the contact with the ball i'm assuming? if its purely cosmetic i don't really care about how they look

Performance, definitely. Spin if the grooves are somewhat filled up and could potentially impact launch if there are any harder chunks coming out of the grooves.
My country side comes out a bit when I'm on the course. I keep a small towel on my waist, like the size of a hand towel. If I hit a fat shot or take a good sized divot, I'll clean my club right after swinging it. Spit on the club if necessary. I use it on the green too, because if I'm riding, I normally grab wedge and putter and walk in, while I let the other person take the cart up. So when I get to the green, I can mark my ball, then clean the ball off with the little towel.

I picked up new irons right after the RocketBladez came out, but I've had the same driver and hybrid for awhile. I thought they were about 3-4 years old, but apparently they came out in 2008. I don't recall too much about the price when I bought them, so it's possible that the clubs were already 2-3 years old when I got them and on their way off of the market.

Yup. Just what reign said, dirty clubs actually can fuck you up, not to mention can cause them not to last as long and/or rust

The golf tracking system I bought recently is smartwatch compatible (distance of last shot, yds to pin, strokes taken) which has me suddenly interested in them. The compatible watches Im looking at if anyone has a quick review on one:
Pebble- $65
Samsung Gear 2- $105
Moto 360- $145
I'm eager to hear how your first round goes with the new tracking system!
Didnt want to completely hijack the other thread.
Should be getting the tags today sometime and Ill try to get a twilight round in tonight. I walked a quick 9 last night just to get a feel for the app itself. I was using golflogix before, and I gotta say, I liked the golfpad app a LOT better. Small learning curve, but by the third hole I had it down. I was tracking shots by hitting a GPS icon on the screen and selecting club I was hitting, hit ball, repeat. Essentially the tags keep you from having to take the phone out and select the club for each spot, which will be worth it to me. Either way, it had a cleaner interface, easier to edit scores, and you can track shots in the free version (required upgrade for golflogix).
Buying the tags comes with a year subscription to the premium golfpad app too, which apparently gives access to some more stats/data but also makes it compatible with the watches, which really has me interested. I love the idea of walking to my ball after a drive, seeing how far I just drove it and seeing the distance to the pin without taking my phone out.

What was the annual fee after the 1st year for the premium subscription?
I may have to download it and give it a go if I can get out of the office early today.

Just got home from walking 9 with the new tags
-Theyre VERY light, and my first concern was whether theyd fit right (I read in a review a guy noted a tag to fall off his club). Well, rest assured after screwing them snugly (but not tight) they seemed to sit just fine. Didnt notice them at all while playing
-Setup was really easy, took about 5 minutes to screw the tags on and sync with the app
-Execution: Fantastic. The setup did exactly what I wanted it to. Phone in the front pocket, simply tapped to register club before hitting, including putts. It gives a vibration and sound feedback so you know it registered, I found it nice to have both the sound and tactile feedback as sometimes I noticed one without the other. On a gimme putt, I just tapped again when I picked my ball up so that it would count the stroke. I found myself checking the phone every couple holes just to make sure it was accurate, and it was. Didnt need to go back to edit anything. I could have left it in my pocket the entire round and it clocked everything appropriately. I still pulled the phone out for yardage, something that has me interested in getting an inexpensive used smartwatch to wear during the round.
Overall, Im very happy with it. Im actually glad I didnt go with Arccos at this point, seeing as the only difference I can figure is the need to tap the phone. Tapping the phone was honestly a non-issue, and considering the $300 difference Im happy to do it. My only reservation is the durability of the tags, and thats only because theyre so damn lightweight. They send 15, and I only needed 13 so at least there are a couple backups if something happens.
