Cancel the season! Let these guys get out there and try to affect change. Nothing bad happens from that, except financials for the league, owners, players and TV deals. Those don't matter if they believe in what they stand for

The next phase of this is really interesting to me. The NBA and these teams are businesses. Adam Silver has allowed some significant freedoms that aren't afforded to most employees. When you do this, it's a slippery slope. Boundaries will be tested and precedents will be set. LeBron and LA are pushing those boundaries right now.

Shel is completely right here. The best possible outcome is hoping that rescheduling today's games is enough to appease the players, so they can stand up and say "we took a stand for injustice and boycotted our games."

IF that's not enough and a team(s) decides it wants to forfeit their season, it'll get really messy. The NBA will be in a position where 1.) they have to go against that SJ stance publicly and move forward with the playoffs, which will raise questions about their own agenda. Or 2.) they bite a huge financial bullet and shut it all down, while telling teams/players that want to play that they can't. If #2 happens, they are going to be held to their TV contract commitments financially. That's a huge hit. There will be players that wanted to continue that are going to have a hell of an argument regarding their contracts/potential bonuses.

Keep in mind, the # of teams and the 8 game regular season schedule wasn't pulled out of thin air. It was specifically setup to meet minimum requirements for their broadcast contract. This was a key factor in the restart for the NBA, because they had to have that money.

Just had a long conversation with a bunch of friends about stuff like this (1 guy was going on about why he stopped watching the NBA a few years ago). I think it was a bold move by Silver to allow the slogans, etc. Not from an social justice standpoint, but more from the view of what kind of precedent you're setting for controlling speech. As a viewer, I think all of the words are distracting on the jerseys, but once the game is going, I don't care at all. I want to watch the best players in the world, player at the highest level and I'm getting to see that. With the bubble environment, we're getting to a lot more detail in the interviews. In the case of LeBron, he's using it as a platform to speak. By not playing, he's silencing himself. It's one thing for me to take my position and just turn the channel or walk out of the room when the game ends. It's another for him to cut his own line into millions of viewers homes.

i get the dopamine kicks everyone gets from being puppeted around by the next news story the media sends you, but i barely want to come to these boards as it is and by the looks of it a lot of others haven't been either... can we please keep a few threads free from this

The irony here. You want a message board about basketball to stick with basketball and leave politics out of it. We want to watch basketball without the politics yet it's okay to have it shoved down our throats while they play. Not bashing you Dave as I enjoy your thought-out responses but you have to appreciate the irony in your post

if you want to discuss why you know better than others and your team is superior to the other side do it in the politics thread, i'm all for free speech... go crazy. i just want to know i can come here and mindlessly check shel posting about Zion or CP3 or Corey posting about the Heat or Weasel once a year asking if the Pistons are going to be worth watching.

simple as that. i'm not the master of these boards, do as you please... i'm just asking nicely and expressing the other side of it. shit is beyond exhausting listening to

seems like Edwards is the dude right now.

its a no win as long as you have a guy like D'Angelo on the roster tho... impossible to let a young player shine when you have 2 ball dominant guys like Russell and Towns on the roster already. they'd be best to try to get Russell out of town quickly then bring in a guard like Edwards and let him learn on the go with the ball in his hands. At that point you'll get the true ability to see who he is or isn't.

right now he'll come in and be a 3rd wheel and he's not a good 3 pt shooter as it is so he'll be playing in a position he's likely never played in his life without the ball in his hands. hard thing to ask a dude to do especially when you're the number 1 pick

Admitted I don't know any of this firsthand, but from what I've read it's definitely weak at the top with no real standout guys, but seems like many like this draft from either a depth standpoint or just the amount of solid looking players in it, just not top heavy.

I certainly get what you're saying Dave... that's why I tried to yank a series of posts out of the random discussion thread yesterday too.

Unfortunately, the NBA has collectively tied these at the hip, so it's likely to be in/out of this thread quite a bit, until they step away from it all. Personally, I don't want politics anywhere near my sports... but my only option right now is to turn it off/ignore the parts that I don't like until it passes.

I think they've put their organization in a bad spot. They brought in Russell to make KAT happy (close friends). I don't think they can walk Russell now without causing a major issue with KAT.

I fully believe the right choices for Minnesota come down to 2 options:
1.) Trade the pick, get a quality player in return.
- I don't think Edwards recognizes his potential in Minny. They have 3 young wings right now in Culver, Beasley and Okogie. They have 2 ball dominant players in Russell / Towns. Trade the pick, get someone that offers you something different than the 3 young guys and get a bit of a leader. D'lo and KAT are on the hook for roughly 30m each for the next 3-4 yrs. Getting that 3rd piece to even be remotely competitive in the West is going to be tough. This is a quick path to doing it.

2.) Draft James Wiseman
- Generally, most teams have 2-3 stars that lead the way. D'lo and KAT will turn 25 during the next season and both are on 3-4 year deals. They aren't on the level of many of the other stars in the West. So instead of trying to add a 'star' type wing and go head to head with these west teams, where you're likely going to lose based on talent level, I think they need to zig while others are zagging. Get Wiseman and try to dominate with size/ability at the 4/5. (Lakers are kind of doing this now)

I don't think they end up as a real threat in any situation, but I think option 2 gives them the best shot to get out of the first round occasionally.
