all the 'Penn St will never be the same' and 'the school is going to be set back forever' stuff is wayyyy over the top.
Baylor hoops had a player murder another, drug use, kids being paid and just complete scumbags all around the program and while the program went down hill for a few years, nobody really cares about that anymore and now they have huge recruits coming in left and right.
while i realize this story is far bigger in the media's eyes, i truly believe if the university acts properly by removing everyone and then makes a splash hire like an Urban Meyer that things will be back to 'normal' very quickly.

I do believe the Penn State will never be the same... at least for the better part of our lifetimes. Set back forever? It won't be.
But Penn State had an incredible image prior to this. Which is partly why it is such a story. I don't think we see this same kind of coverage if it is Gary Pinkel at Missouri... or someone like that. So when you use the term, be the same, we're talking about returning to an impeccable standard. That simply will not happen. Could the football team be in national title game in the next decade... in theory, sure. Nuke the staff, hire an awesome coach, create a perception that it's all cleaned up... life will go on. It just won't be the same.

I think alot of people know alot of something. gotta wonder what sandusky knows or has over other people in admin to be able to keep using facilities and have a presence on campus. these latest Mark Madden rumors may lend creedence to things getting worse before things get better unfortunately for psu.

They are probably consulting their employment attorneys as to how to remove him. They are probably looking for a way to get around the whitle blower act or negotiate a severance package.
@ Shift, not sure if you'll see this but sorry about the last post. I was hurring between appointments and confused your post with Peay's post about kicking the school out of the big ten. Sorry about being a dick man.

Yeah, I know it sounds callous, but this falls under the category of "this is not my problem; not my bag." I feel badly for the families, but that is their problem. Even they would agree ... probably.

Has anyone seen the rumor from yesterday alleging that Sandusky was pimping the kids to rich PSU donors and thats part of the reason why no one in the administration said anything? Jesus if that is true who knows how high this goes. I am praying that that is not true because I cant even imagine how many more victims there would be.
That aside, the firing of Joe Pa bothered me. It showed how incompetent they are and have been with this. By not reporting what he saw to the authorities, McQ was negligent and as a result, will most likely be sued by that victim and every victim following that. McQ broke the law as well but they have chose to completely ignore that fact. I am sure that people will try to sue Joe Pa as well but they will all get crushed because legally he did nothing wrong.
Did anyone else read about the initial investigation of Sandusky in 98-99? It is a very strange story. Long story short, the DA was investigating a claim about sexual misconduct or something involving Jerry Sandusky and a young boy. The DA ended up not prosecuting though because of lack of evidence or something, Coincidentally, a few months later ,the DA took a day off work called his girlfriend and said he was coming over, and was never seen again. They found his car parked at some store, combed a near by river and found his work lap top (water logged and unable to recover anything). When they looked at his home computer, they saw that he was looking at "how to destroy a laptop so files are unrecoverable" websites. Its still unsolved. Relating the new rumors to this, did Sandusky have leverage? Did other people have leverage? Was what this guy found so shocking that he could not proceed?
The only thing we know is, that this thing is not going away for a long time.

Actually he's not legally negligent. He's probably morally negligent though. Teachers, at least in Indiana, are told that if they suspect or know of child abuse, they are to report it to their superiors (adminstration, guidance counselor) and those people are to take it from there. This is partially for the protection of the teacher. I'm not sure if this is applicable in this case with it being a college football coach and a child who was not a student but it seems logical.

I read this too. I thought when they found the laptop the hard drive was missing completely. The DA in question supposedly had a reputation as being beholden to no one and something of an independent that would always do what was best and legal. It's very interesting stuff. It would make a great episode of Law and Order.

That DA story is just weird and a crazy ass coincidence.
Dave I am sorry unless Meyer comes in and takes over I think the program is barely bowl eligible the next five to eight years.

Definitely, IMO.
From what we know now, other than Sandusky obviously, I got this McQ got guy as being much worse than JoePa and on down the line of higher ups at PSU.
He actually saw a child being molested and did nothing to stop it right there. Hell, scream like a girl, do something lol. It's disgusting that he just walked away from that.
How he hasn't been fired yet is nuts, or arrested. I heard from Lester Munson, the ESPN legal expert(On Lebatard, of course lol), that likely the only reason he hasn't been arrested is because he's been given some sort of immunity in return for telling all and telling all truthfully to successfully try Sandusky eventually. I don't think that'd have anything to do with him not being fired at PSU though, that's a mystery to me how the guy who saw the act happening and did nothing to stop it is still there will the school president(who, to my knowledge, there is zero evidence that he knew anything) is already gone.
