Pimp your ride thread
Re: Pimp your ride thread
Have a question for you truck guys if you will.
Have a 2009 chevy Texas Edition Truck and about to give it to daughter and do a trade with her.
I want to level it up and maybe put a lift kit on it.
Should I do 2.5 in or 3.5 in lift kit. I am thinking 2.5 as if I go to high then my tires I have will not look right. I have 20 x 75 (I think) Yokohama's A/T tread.
I think leveling it up and raising it 2.5 in would look pretty decent but just want to see if there are any other ideas out there that may look good.
thanks

Oracle, great looking car. The plasti dip looks great.
Reign, love those wheels. As Oracle stated, they are the perfect color for your car.
kdog, why would you lift a truck you are giving to your daughter?
You do know that lifting a vehicle makes it less stable and bigger tires makes the gas mileage worse?
If it is for you, carry on truck guys, carry on!

Re: Pimp your ride thread
2.5 / 3.5 isn't a huge deal. The other thing to consider is that it sounds like you're leveling it at the same time, which means that you're not going to get the full lift on one end of the truck, because it is staggered already. The one thing to consider is if there are any issues with exhaust or other parts when going to the 3.5. In most cases, with GM trucks, you can put a 2.5 on with no other adjustments required.
You don't need to consider new tire dimensions unless you're looking to combine a suspension and body lift or you're going with a singular lift that takes you more than 3.5. That's when it starts to look stupid, imo.

It is for daughter and myself. Mainly was just going to level it out first and see how it looks. not going with bigger tires at all and do not plan on lifting the truck to stupid heights. was looking at 2.5 lift if the level up did not satisfy what I am going for which is : I really have no clue why but I do like leveled out trucks

Re: Pimp your ride thread
Not sure How truck lifts go but I am assuming they aren't to far off from Jeep lifts. As long as you are using a suspension lift you shouldn't need any leveling kit. For instance, I bought the Rock Krawler 1.5" coils. It gave me close to 2" in the front and and a 1.5" in the rear which took away that forward rake in it's stance. I think the truck lift should do the same, as long as it isn't a body lift. If you go 2.5" and higher I would try to find a GMC thread to see if there are issues with exhaust clearance or if you will end up needing a new drive shaft (which is the case on the JK if going higher than 3").

Think I am going to plastidip the 1996 Honda Accord with 46k miles that I got from my wife's grandmother.
Some cool videos on youtube about it.
dipyourcar.com
Says it should be about $300 or so total. We will see.

The whole car?
That will be awesome. Make sure to post some pics. They make it look so easy on those videos and it probably is with patience and proper layering and taping.

Prep work! Make sure it is clean and No wax. It's easy and it pretty much self levels.

Re: Pimp your ride thread
Yeah, I was watching videos on youtube all day today.
They sell a soap you use as you wash the car, which preps the clear coat.
Then you spray on 2 coats of a base coat and then 2-4 coats of the actual color.
If you are doing the glossifier (Clear), then you do 2 coats of the actual color and then 2 of the glossifier.
Overall, they recommend 4-6 coats of total product. They said it actually makes it easier to peel off later if you choose to.

Re: Pimp your ride thread
How much would all that cost, Niddler? I'm interested now, though I'll likely never do it lol.
Re: Pimp your ride thread
$3 a can, cost me $6 total to do my grill and rims. I can't imagine an entire car costing much more than$100 or soshel311 wrote:How much would all that cost, Niddler? I'm interested now, though I'll likely never do it lol.

This dude is like king PlastiDip.
Ive watched all his videos before doing mine and his shop in Miami specializes in this. Check out all his videos as he has this down to an art.
Here is the whole car one for anyone seriously interested in doing it. He makes it look way too easy.

Well he would have to buy the actual gallons of paint, not the spray cans or it will be a process indeed.Weasel wrote:$3 a can, cost me $6 total to do my grill and rims. I can't imagine an entire car costing much more than$100 or so
It can get pricey but this includes the sprayer. I dont have one and doubt Shel does so that may change his mind.
Takes 3-4 gallons to do a sedan so possibly around $300-$400 for one of their kits with a sprayer.
Professional Car Kit (3 Gallons)
This is the kit used when a professional finish is desired to Dip your small car. This Kit comes with the DYC DipSprayer™ System, 3 Gallons of Rubber Dip Spray (ready to spray) , 1 roll of Blue Tape, a DipWasher®, 2 DipYourCar.com Decals, a mixing stick, Paint Stirrer and Mic...
