dempsey did not look offsides, really

Such a fun game ruined by a litany of absurd rules and standards.
Oh, I am sorry. I didn't know I have to say only happy footy thoughts.jsence2 wrote:trendon wrote:Another asshole rule in soccer; offsides when deep. There should be no offsides called when you are within a certain distance from the goal, namely the goal box.

Oh get over it already. They don't sit down and say, "how do we make Trendon happy?"
Everyone plays by the same rules. That said, that goal was good. Fucking bullshit.

Either way, there is no way you can defend that rule. The reason for the rule doesn't apply that close.
Nice try. Cherry-picking? LOL! From six yards away. Just because "everyone has the same rule" doesn't make it less of a bullshit rule. Rules can be changed; this is one of about four that should be made immediately.jsence2 wrote: I'm just tired of hearing you complain about rules, not just in soccer but other sports, that YOU don't like. These rules have been around for a long time.
And yes I CAN defend the rule. Offsides is offsides; it's to prevent cherry-picking. Now you want to make it even more of a judgement call? One ref might deem it's "too close to the line" for offside, where another might think it's not. Just stop whining about it; everyone has the same rule and that one wasn't that close, it was an awful decision.

The offsides rule works for 98% of the field. You made mention that making the penalty kicks more difficult would result in less goals and would I want that? Well, having offsides rules when within 1-18 yards of the goal is worse.
Quit YOUR bitching. I know you think you are like super cool because you like this quaint sport more than most, but sometimes - and I know this is, like, really hard to fathom - people see things they don't like about soccer.jsence2 wrote: QUIT. YOUR. BITCHING.
It's the rule, it's not going to change, deal with it. Fuck sakes!

They should change that rule. It should be off once the player with the ball is within the 18-yard box.
Don't fall for the pink elephant theory.
Not sure, ask Packsy. He knows Matt Moore or haven't you heard.... 129 times....?trendon wrote:By the way, who is going to come on for Matt Moore of Algeria? Biff McCracken? Todd Anderson?
See? That is how you counterpoint! I never thought of that. I see the problem now. Unlike hockey - where you can go and move the fucker in front - you'd be penalized every time you touched the guy in front and then we'd be back and me bitching about the ease of penalty kicks.jsence2 wrote:
You don't get it. With YOUR theory, the moment the ball is in the box, 4 guys can run and surround the goalie behind the defenders and obstruct his view for an easy goal by the guy with the ball. There's a reason the offside trap is a risk-reward defensive strategy. These rules have existed for 100 years, and nobody else seems to struggle with it. The Premier League plays with these rules and it's exciting and successful and the fans love it; it's not stupid, and it's not going to change. There are lots of things soccer fans see wrong with the sport--offsides isn't one of them.
1) That is apples and lugnuts.jsence2 wrote: Hell, let's take away the blue lines in hockey, since we can just come into a sport and make random rule changes to make the sport more "appealing" to the person. Once you get across center ice there should be no offsides rule, I think the blue line is too close.
