I completely forgive Dub for all of our trade mishaps, I love me some pythag talks. Don't sweat it, Whit barely posts any more, so he isn't around to be mad about it. I won't even throw in an "I told you so" to Whit.
+8 in pythag through 39 games is unbelievable. Pitt is 20-19 despite being outscored 231-153, so that would be -78 in 39 games, outscored 2 runs per game...still above .500.

+1 - 4/1/2024
Sorry, I clicked on a player in the draft pool and noticed it was different then the 4/1/24 that I had been used to seeing . . . so apparently there was only an update on the scouting report for the draft pool. The current rating in OOTP are different then my current rating in my spreadsheet.
Wow . . . I am really fucking shit up today . . . and I have 2 NDL league games to play . . . I may need to postpone . . .

Correct me if I am wrong . . . but don't you need to pitch 9.0 (or 8.0 if you are home team) in order to have a complete game? If he pitched 8.1, doesn't that mean someone else pitched 0.2??
Just curious as I am a bit confused right now . . .
I said almost lol. Also, it's impossible to throw an eight inning complete game as the home team.

Q about Cruz. is Bernie on the hook for the remainder of that circumvented contract because he has a 41 yr old signed through 2031 (7 more yrs) at a 12 mil/yr price. Quite clear that he made this offer so he could get less money/yr knowing no player is actually gonna play til theyre 48-50 and thus he got cruz for much cheaper than market value.
If not, I'm signing all my guys til theyre 50 for cheap.
edit: hes in year 3 of 10 of this deal, he signed it when he was 39 and 200ish days. lol ya, no player is signing a 10 yr deal at 39, and no team is offering that without being instantly fired.

How many 40 year old have you ever had worth signing multi year deals? Lol.
Yes, he's on the hook every year until Cruz retires.
Remember, if cruz sticks around 5 years too long like Rojas did, bernie is on the hook.,

Scott May Incur Fine for 'Childish Behavior': Guadalajara shortstop Stanley Scott is in hot water with manager Miguel RodrÃguez for a series of pranks aimed at other teammates. "These guys are adults," said the Roosters skipper. "And they're supposed to be professionals. Why Stanley is acting like a clown is beyond me." According to RodrÃguez, Scott will be fined if the behavior continues. However, Scott, doesn't understand why his manager is getting all worked up. "I'm just having a little fun, blowing off some steam. He doesn't need to call me out in public. And fining me would be taking it way too far. It's embarrasing to be singled out like that. I don't know. I guess I need to take things a little more seriously from now."

again? Joe Telvest knocked in almost 100 runs at 42, why can't Cruz produce til later than that? Even at nearly 42, Cruz is still producing. wOBA of .346 and OPS+ of 122. Both would be 3rd on your team. But even at that rate, I would say 12 mil per is right around market value, if not overpaying for the production received. We got guys sitting in free agency right now that could produce more than that for half the money, but remain unsigned. And let's talk about instantly fired. I think a GM would be instantly fired if a player says to him, "I want
X amount" and the GM says, "No we're going to give you
3X".

I dont think you quite understand what I mean.
If in real life, a GM gave a player at the age of 39, a 10 yr contract. That GM probably wouldnt get his hand on the paper to sign it before he was instantly fired by the owner. Instantly. Why? Because unlike a video game which is random, a real life person getting a contract til hges almost 50 wont retire because he will continue to get that money as long as hes playing or bought out. In this game, in 2 seasons (cruz is a 44/80 and dropped 40 pts in 1.5 yrs so i wouldnt even say 2 yrs) when Cruz retires, you dont owe anymore of that 5 yrs 60 mil that remains that Cruz signed, and thus you got him at a much cheaper value. I could offer a 40 yr old a 1 yr 3 mil deal, or a 10 yr 10 mil deal and he'll take the 10 mil cause 10 > 3, but in reality im paying him 1 mil/yr til he retires cause hes 40, so if he retires in 2 yrs, instead of 2/6 like he probably would of wanted, i got him for 2/2 because in the sims mind I just offered him 10.
But in this game, you dont become liable for these kinda circumventions because now you got a player who sees 120 mil over 10, when his digi self has 3 maybe 4 yrs left in him. If you dont feel thats circumventing of a salary then we'll agree to disagree.
In the NHL Kovie signed a 17 yr contract and they got reprimanded and lost draft picks. You signed a 39 yr old to a 10 yr contract... Kovie when he signed woulda been a Devil til 44, and that was frowned upon, and you got a guy whos gonna be on your team til hes 49!
Also 12 mil for the best hitter in NDLB history is fair value? Maybe on an arb contract...

on a side note to Cruz, when he does retire, I think we should rename the Batting MVP title to the Jaime Cruz Award

So you base your contracts value on what they did in the past? Not what you think they will do over the contract you are about to sign?
Let's look at the three years I have had him on current deal..
2022/ 113 games .330/29/74 182ops+
2023/ 121 games .260/24/74 129 ops+
2024/ 29games .250/5/13 122 ops+
You think 12 million is a bargain for that? I think it's overpaid but maybe right on, considering he's the second best hitter in NDL history, and I am willing to pay for the difference. Even though, I could get a younger, equally good bat for cheaper in free agency.
We'll agree to disagree, while your "10>3" theory may be right in this case, that is not how it works in every case. I have failed numerous times to get Ramos to sign a long-term extension, even at more money per season than the 3yr/30mil season I finally got him to sign. You want to penalize me for making a good deal (in your eyes), but do you want to also help out the people that make bad deals? Trendon signed Ando to what a 29 mil per contract when he came in. No way that happens in real life imo.. didn't see you saying we should cut Trendon's payroll since he signed a contract that doesn't seem realistic. If you're going to want to set a ceiling, you have to set a floor too. You can't say we will only allow bad contracts, not good ones. That's why stats have averages, there are highs and lows, and then the average.
Many players have walked away from contracts in real life to retire, if Cruz does so as well, it won't be unprecedented. Kansas City in the 80's signed many of their superstars (Brett, Quisenberry, Wilson) to "lifetime" contracts, it normally involved real estate deals, stuff that I don't think is allowed anymore and OOTP doesn't incorporate, but nonetheless, that was my main goal is to get Cruz to retire while playing for my team. And you haven't heard of Julio Franco and Jamie Moyer? Guys that have played into their late 40's. Why would I not think Cruz can play until then? I thought he was done in 2016 and was worried about the last 5 years on the first ten year deal I gave him. Then he exploded at age 35. With what we've seen with guys coming into the game in their late 30's and guys with crazy ratings jump, how do I know what he will do? Unless Reign wants to run an advanced sim and tell me exactly when someone is going to retire, I will take what is given me and make do.

if you google in the history of the existance of sports, 39 yr old signs 10 year deal, it returns nothing because its never happened because its so asinine. Because in real life Cruz wouldnt retire on a 10 yr 120 mil contract he received at the age of 39 unless he was mentally retarded and even then his caregiver would advice him to keep playing til he was at least bought out so he could receive it all. In this video game cruz is gonna retire and leave 60+ mil on the table. Lmao, that would never happen in real life under any circumstance. Im sorry you say players retire and leave money, no one leavces 60+ mil on the table. There's one "some what" example and its Ilya Kovalchuk who retired with a "large amount" left but hes also 30 and already signed a new expensive contract in the KHL AND it was front loaded so the majority of that remaining money (70ish he left) was actually just avg'd cap space and not real life dollars and cents. Signing bonuses and such put the majority of it at the beginning. but even still its not the same.
In real life this would of got you fired, seriously. On the spot. In this game it helps you liquidate a contract that wont be completely fulfilled and thus you get a player at a cheaper price. Theres no rule against it so its whatever, just lame is all.
For the record, I'm not calling you out. I'm calling the contract out. In this game we sign players and no one knows because theres no media and its a sim, but in real life every single contract is said to the media and everyone knows. I guarantee if this was known the moment you signed it people woulda said stuff.

What if Cruz sticks around 3 or 4 more seasons, then retires? Then Bernie will have gotten rather horrible value if his ratings keep tanking on that contract.
He'll have gotten 1 great year, one good year, and 3-4 shitty years.
