Theres no consistently in his numbers other than YPA which even those differences would be big after 600+ pass attempts.

ADD that your WR core is dusty and you just traded Graham

for someone who loved to back numbers before, you apparently disregard them when it comes to your fav teams.

I can't even being to tell you how bad this frame of reference is.

You can start by putting in a sample of 4 other starting QBs, ranging in talent, then adjust your charts accordingly. If all that you reference are his stats and the graphs have nothing to scale against, you can make them look outrageous.
(apparently I can begin to tell you...)

why would i compare other Qbs when the argument was that brees is consistent statistically for the last 7-8 yrs, when those numbers say otherwise?

They've shaved just about all of the cap they needed to and are in play for Browner or Traman Williams. The Graham move(while I hate it) has actually opened up space to get a little defensive help.

Because you have no frame of reference concerning what "consistent" is. By putting other QBs, you can see how volatile his numbers are in relation to it.

Simple sample:

If he throws 8, 9, 10, 8, 10 interceptions per year, then you make a chart that shows us marks at 8, 9, 10... it's going to look inconsistent. But the fact is, that is incredibly consistent.

I shoulda clarified when I said his numbers aren't different.

He's most certainly wildly inconsistent from season to season based on his numbers, no question.

My points are:

1. Last season wasn't any worse than some of his previously "down" seasons with the Saints, so you've still yet to provide evidence that he's on a serious downswing and can't be a really good QB 2+ years from now.

2. You're also missing the fact that those down seasons are still really good statistically compared to the rest of the league.

So again, I don't see how you've proved any of your points yet.

All knowing has spoken.

I bet those same charts with Brady from 2009 on show him to be inconsistent as well, maybe more.. Especially 2009 and 2013, if I recall.

Nick is basically saying you can't trust Brees because he's either going to be super elite/top 2-3 good or really good/top 5-8 good.

They absolutely will show any single QB as inconsistent. As I said... horrible.

Add a handful of QBs of varying talent that have played a good amount for 5-6 seasons and lets see how it looks. The answer is going to be that Brees is very consistent. If you take it a step further and look at where he ranks in each stat, you're going to find that it's likely even more consistent, because his stats are so much better than most QBs.

I hear ya.

And even still, I don't think the consistency is the right argument, since as I said, his "inconsistent" years are still better than 25 QBs in the league, so I think Nick needs to go a different route to prove his point that you can't trust Brees or it's laughable to think he has more than 2 years left in him.

This is true.

I thought your "it could go either way" was referring to who nick was specifically sending that to. But I again missed your attempt at a joke as my Shel joke meter is always broken even when making a joke about yourself.

Carry on

It was referring to that, which means we're both all-knowing, which is the same as saying we're both never wrong. Hence, the echo.

Carry on the argument.

I would agree with nick but both of these QBs arent someone I would build a franchise around so I agree with Shel.
