Sony plans to bring PlayStation Network matchmaking back online within the next couple of days, according to a trusted Eurogamer source.

When contacted for comment, SCE corporate communications director Patrick Seybold told Eurogamer, "We're working to get the network back on as soon as we can."

Meanwhile, a PlayStation Europe community manager has confirmed that Sony intends to get online gaming back up and running before other PSN services.

"Once again, 31st May is the date for FULL restoration of PSN services. Restoration is phased. Online gaming will return BEFORE May 31st," read a post on MusterBuster's Twitter feed earlier today.

Over the weekend, a Sony spokesperson warned that full PSN service might not return until 31st May.

I'm thinking of buying stock in the Playstation store, or maybe on the PSN friend's list, or the new Madden demo when it comes out.

So what you are telling me is that in a couple of days we will get an announcement from Sony saying that in a couple of days they will finish testing and we can expect to be able to play online again in a couple of days and they will update us further when they have more info.

Went from should be back in a couple of days to May 31st. WTF.

If gaming actually took up more of my time like it used to I would probably have already sold my ps3 over this. To be honest it is totally ridiculous. Glad I did not spend any $ on Socom or some of those other good games that released right around the time it went out or I'd be really pissed.

Socom has a campaign mode and is pretty good, I am also playing with the sharpshooter also
