Why not just have the line terminate at the out of bounds boundary, like you see in driveways/parks with a smaller slab?
Would crush spacing and completely change the game. 3-2 zone and 1-3-1 would become godlike.

Better option would be to widen the court a little.

16 is the extreme example and the idea does seem a little crazy, but I read an article on it awhile back, it's not nearly as dramatic as it seems. Found a stat at one point that showed. You've got 8 to cross half court. Let's say that you use all of that (pretty rare in the NBA), now you've got 8 to get a bucket. Typical play takes ~4 seconds of movement to reach the #1 target. That leaves 4 seconds secondary reads or ball rotation (if necessary). All of that seems quick, but the number of possessions that it would impact right now aren't as many as you'd think. Next time you watch a game, see how many shots go up within 8 seconds on the clock or deduct time spent standing around at the top wasting time.

When I thought through the article, the biggest issue I came up with is that it would drastically change the game if teams opted to run a lot of press.

I've also read the counterpoint of extended the shot clock, but I can't grasp how giving the highest IQ basketball minds in the world any more time wouldn't lead to far more efficiency (likely through more 3s).

Wait, whu?
Right now a 3 is worth 50% more than a 2. If you make it 3s and 4s then the shot is only 33% more valuable and it changes the math and makes the non 3s more valuable. I heard this from Theo Epstein talking to some NBA analytics guy on a podcast but can't remember which one.
40% from 3 = 60% from 2
30% from 4 = 40% from 3.

damn, explains why Theo is Theo.

Another boring game.

Not close, low scoring, Heat shoot 7 of 45 from 3.

and under 30% from the field for the game. The Eastern and Western Conference finals have been some horrible basketball to watch for non-fans of any of the teams. I just want to see good tight basketball games

Credit to Boston, injuries hurt the Heat in the series but they’ve completely turned a free flowing bombs away team into a shell of themselves. We can’t buy a bucket.

Ugly to watch

Very ugly and the injuries made it worse.

Boston hit shots and forced Miami into bad ones.
Heat need another scoring option STAT.

Maybe they are just trying to setup the best 2 game finish to a series that we've ever seen to make up for some of these crappy games we've had lately. (pretty sure the sports gods are just making us pay for the NFL playoffs right now)

Luka has played 4 seasons and he now has 3 1st team All NBAs.

For context, that is as many as Kyrie/Dame/Russ...combined.

It's only 1 less 1st team All NBA than CP3, and Steph have for their careers.

Difference is that the Griz were ranked 8th as a team defensively. It's easier to hide Ja than it is Luka. Dallas needs an elite defender and a great defender to get over the hump. The Griz just need to be healthy

Every time I watch them I think how bad their defense is.
