I always forget about that portion of the boards (ie anything that isn't this thread).

So I need to have it set before Friday's sim then.

yes, everyone on your 40-man will be brought up for spring training. You may want to set your lineups and such for that so you get who you want rest and/or playing time. Then by opening day, cut down to 25.

So does that burn option years for AAA guys?

If someone is on your 40, and they are not on the ML roster (during the actual season) they will use an option. I believe it's technically if they spend 20+ days not in the ML but on the 40, but either way, the option isn't based on sending up and down, but rather being on the 40 and not on the ML roster

Yes. Unless they're out of option years (check their contract page) or if they're old enough to refuse a minors assignment (indicated by " ^ " )

as long as they have an option year yes. once you use an option year for that season, you can move them up and down as much as you want. also if he is out of option years but clears waivers you can also move him up and down that season without having to clear waivers again.

Thats good to know. I never knew that once you used an option they could be moved up and down without using more options. So your saying that anyone thats on the Spring Training roster could be called up later in the year without wasting an option year?

Ok, what if a player used an option last year, is on the 40 man, but is now back on the minor league roster.

1) If he is a spring training invitee-does that use an option?

or

2) If he is not a spring training invitee, remains on the 40 man, but is on a minor league roster does he us an option?

Yes, if you use an option year to send him down after ST, you can bring him up and down throughout the season without using another. He has used an option YEAR so it is good for the season.

if hes on 40 man, hes automatically called up to the ML team, you can't stop this (and yes the game is doing it right). if you send him back down to the minors he uses an option.

This is done is baseball so that teams can't stockpile players who would be in the majors on other teams in their minor league system. They do it first with rule 5, if you want to save a guy from rule 5 you put him on your 40 man. All 40 man get called up for ST at which point you have 3 more years to develop them with option years before they have to clear waivers and give everyone else a chance at them.
