Nebraska schools were out till April 30th. Last night that has been extended to May 31st, effectively ending my son's senior year. And this probably puts a pause on his freshman year in college as well.

Still kind of low from what I would have guessed it to be. From what I assume is that 90% of all service industry workers are not needed due to either the place closing or there is no front of the house needed for takeout orders. All the malls (why do we still have them?) are closed, to include the outlet malls, so there goes a bunch of retail jobs. Not sure on what all is included in leisure and hospitality (just hotels?), but I am assuming hotels have to be way below normal levels now as nobody is vacationing.

2018 numbers:
Retail jobs - 15M
Leisure & Hospitality jobs - 16M

https://www.bls.gov/emp/tables/employme ... sector.htm

2019 numbers:
Restaurant and Food Services - 11.9M

That's steep. Have you seen any projections now that places like Macy's, GAP, and others are furloughing?

No but I heard that a majority of these new claims are from states that started their lockdown very early as compared to some of the states that have lagged behind.

No details though but something I heard in the background on CNN.

George, this was in an article I read today.

"In addition, the CARES act that was signed into effect last week expanded unemployment privileges to previously ineligible people such as those who are self-employed and independent contractors."

Don't know if you ever looked into that.

That's what I am thinking. I probably wouldn't apply either way, kind of a pride thing for me, as I can struggle to get by with my retirement alone. But there would be things that needs to be cut out.

Over the past 24 hours, the U.S. reported 26,885 new cases of coronavirus and 1,029 new deaths, raising the total to 215,429 cases and 5,068 dead. This is the first time any country has reported more than 1,000 new deaths in one day

Just got back from the store. I swear I give people too much credit for not being complete idiots. Wearing a scarf around the mouth, all that is more surface area for the virus to cling to. And the wearing of cotton gloves, never once did I see that as something to help prevent the spread.

But I am loving the pictures of people in snorkel masks and what not in the stores

The CDC (and the White House) are on the verge of recommending that everyone wear a non-medical mask while out in public (like at grocery stores). A non-medical mask would be any face covering of the nose and mouth. So a scarf fits that bill (or a balaclava).

Unless you plan to lick the outside of that face covering (or the gloves you saw), and you remove those items and properly clean them (laundry) and your hands when you get home, you are certainly cutting down on the transmision risk from touching something with the virus and then touching your face before washing your hands. I would believe that's the main benefit - along with an infected but asymptomatic person doing the opposite and touching their face, touching something in the store, and you touching it later.

So - not so crazy?

They teach a class in healthcare about donning and doffing and it’s very intricate. Weasel probably knows more then anyone but from what I went through you have a very high rate of infection/transmission when taking off and putting on.

It’s not as easy as rip them off and you good. Definitely washing your hands of course after removing and all of that.

That’s been the concern is actually spreading more of putting a mask process in place and pros/cons. That and taking actual supply away from people that need it.

People are creative as we have seen so this will be fun.

We have a class like that for gowning protocal (on and off) for working in our clean rooms. Have to complete it yearly. Similar concept I'm sure.

I picture it like us putting on our MOPP gear (protects against N.B.C. attacks)
