can someone explain why the US is -1/2 (+158) and +158 ML
I get that the -1/2 means a tie is a push, but the +158 is to win in regulation not advance (-121) and this seems crazy

The -1/2 (+158) means USA will win by one or more in regulation. If it goes to extra time or penalties, the under wins.
The +158 ML means they will win in regulation. If it goes to extra time or penalties, the draw wins.
Thus, if people are betting the same amount on the USA to win in regulation, whether it's by spread or by ML, the odds would be about the same.
Right now, I'm getting pick-em spread (-140) and +135/+200/+220 (USA, Ghana, Draw)

Found this in a forum in a topic dedicated to the above gif
In related news, FIFA to instruct referees to card American players for moving in any direction at any time.
Actually, from what I heard, in the round of 16, the rules for the USA will be:
Offsides: red card
Onsides: yellow card
Hand ball: yellow card
Touching foot to ball: red card
HAHAHA

No problem.
People who freak out over saying "we" when referring to a team, that's just one of my pet peeves.

Fuck, wish I knew the way it worked with 100% confidence as I was second-guessing myself, but in conclusion it was a mistake that I should have grabbed

now i'm thinking I don't understand again.
I realize that some teams you can get at +1 so you win with a draw or a SU win and push if they lose by 1, but how is a -1/2 different than a ML? You have to win in regulation for both so I'm guessing it's relevant for the +1/2 on Ghana so if they do anything BUT lose in regulation then you win.
...it just seems like the same bet and now the US ML is +163 and the -1/2 is +158
don't understand why it's not the same amount, as I'd just grab the higher number if I really wanted to bet it

The New Jersey Devils were the first team I ever referred to as "we." For starters, it made the sentence shorter; a skill that even eight year olds learn. However, about the same age, I learned another thing: when I care about the haphazard flight of a distant ball AS MUCH as I care about my family and friends ... is it we, our, us, etc.
"It is foolish and childish, on the face of it, to affiliate ourselves with anything so insignificant and patently contrived and commercially exploitative as a professional sports team, and the amused superiority and icy scorn that the non-fan directs at the sports nut (I know this look -- I know it by heart) is understandable and almost unanswerable. Almost. What is left out of this calculation, it seems to me, is the business of caring -- caring deeply and passionately, really caring -- which is a capacity or an emotion that has almost gone out of our lives. And so it seems possible that we have come to a time when it no longer matters so much what the caring is about, how frail or foolish is the object of that concern, as long as the feeling itself can be saved. Naiveti -- the infantile and ignoble joy that sends a grown man or woman to dancing and shouting with joy in the middle of the night over the haphazardous flight of a distant ball -- seems a small price to pay for such a gift. "
That was said half a century ago by the greatest sports writer you never heard, Roger Angell. Any sniveling person that wants to take umbrage with "we" and "us" is either just beiing a needler or isn't a sports fan.
