i really dont care to be honest
my guess is that most of the teams are going to be 2 keepers at most. those guys will lose that round pick also.

its pretty much going to be a complete redraft.

That way it would guarantee you keeping a big time player with a huge salary but also keeping some sort of team your used too. What about FA guys that arent on a team? How do we account for them? All just thoughts and Im down for whatever
i want it to really be a decision if guys want to keep their stud or not. a guy who makes 15-17 mil is basically taking your whole salary... thats how i want it to be.

if its 25 mil then everyone can keep their stud and other players and there is no real internal debate.

FA guys will be their last year of NBA salary. current players will be avg of current contract.

fair enough. Then would draft go based on team finish or would it be random with new guys drafting 1st?

new guys take over for the existing team/roster so they'd be in the same slot whether they are new or not.

the draft will likely be the same way NBA does it.

lottery then reverse standings after lottery.

Dwight Howard combined with a top 5 pick could get you back to respectability.

edit: this isn't correct

Wasn't Howard a 1st round pick though? So, he wouldn't be able to keep him and pick in the 1st round right?

I'm telling you...It's going to get messy messy messy - this whole caveat of 'keeping' players then trading off that subsequent picks is a can of worms.

Doc's scenario is a prime example - Another would be Toro; does he get to keep Blake Griffin as well as keep his first round pick? Or better yet Packsy, who just may very well miss the playoffs, gets to keep Danny Granger but still is eligible for a lottery consideration?

I like the idea of capping the salary at like $20M for keepers & just keeping it at that - no additional tradeoffs. It's clear that we're leaning towards redrafting the majority of our teams anyways, so if guys want to keep their studs, then just move them to the back of the bus in the 1st Rd. If they keep two guys (no matter who those two are), move them to the back of the bus for 2 Rds; so forth and so on...

how is it going to get messy?

i promise you i have it under control. no, Toro wouldn't get to keep Blake and his 1st pick (since Blake was a 1st round pick himself)... he'd have to choose one or the other. as for Packsy, Granger was a 1st round pick so he wouldn't be eligible for the lottery... what are you missing here?

i have to say, i really have no idea what you're talking about but i do appreciate your input.

i don't really have an opinion, just interested to see what we're thinking about doing in concrete fashion.

Will there be a vote or is it just up to dave?

I'm interested to see what happens

i've posted what is likely happening. there may be slight tweaks here or there, but for the most part its been decided how we're going forward.

i'm still listening to suggestions tho, so keep em coming.

i like the idea of having a set amount to keep certain players because my top picks are trash and I would want to keep other players.

So could I keep 3 if i stayed below that $20M cap? I didn't look yet, but I imagine they would

nvm they combine for $22M

I am sorry if I misunderstand, I am busy at work today, but trying to keep up...

- What would our entire team salary be?
I am confused on the 20 mil. Is that just for your combined keepers or your entire team's salary?

- I understand if you keep a guy, you lose the draft pick of the round he was picked in. Great idea and makes complete sense.

Sorry, Dave, can you post something to clarify?
Again, sorry, just trying to keep up while at work.

I am up for whatever Dave decides, he has obviously proven that he can run the league.
I am just asking for some clarification. Thanks.

because i'm trying to have a sense of continuity in the league.

rather then one season Shel is New Orleans and has Chris Paul then the next season he is Chicago and has Kobe Bryant.

i want to have guys that are tied to cities and have their 'franchise' type players attached to it.

like i said earlier... i have all this under control... i normally don't even bother posting this shit until i actually do it, but i figured i'd give you guys a jumpstart so you can start thinking about things

I love the keeper aspect, really makes things more fun and will give guys some players they're familiar with in the 2nd season.

I understand what you are trying to do dave and i like it.

When you do the whole lottery thing, if Toro kept Griffen, lost his first round pick, would he still pick first in the second round? and are you doing a snake draft or no? Personally I do not think you should do a snake if you decide to do keepers.

snake or not (could possibly do 1st couple rounds normal then a snake... still not sure) and a max amount of keepers are things i'm still thinking about.

either way i'll make it clear and explain it properly when the time comes.

thanks for the input
