play with a group and watch out for one another....
every game is unique, so there really isn't a specific way to win.
don't engage guys/teams unless you have the advantage (ie - high ground, ramp built, some kind of cover....)
play duos/squads...IMO theyre much more fun than singles

Here's how my games go.
1. Loot everything to get a bunch of resources you won't have time to use and don't know how to build with properly
2. Get a bunch of awesome guns so you can win the confrontation you're building towards.
3. Run like hell to avoid the storm 2 or 3 times
4. Hide for a bit.
5a. See someone, sneak up behind them, shoot at them, miss, get killed by them
Or
5b. See someone, sneak up behind them, shoot at them, kill them, get killed by someone else immediately
Or
5c. See no one, find a decent place to further loot or use to hide, step in trap, die.
Respawn. Start back at 1 (Brian McKnight style)

That is what makes the game amazing!
We have gotten pretty good at both sides of 5B. We come up behind and get the kill then get wiped out by another squad laying in wait for the battle to end. But we also have been those guys who come in right after a fire fight and get some quick easy kills.
I would suggest you play solo, get some materials and start practicing your building. Get fast at it, it will be the deciding factor more times or not whether you win a gun fight or lose

Building a building when you're getting shot at seems cheap as shit. I hate that. But, I suppose eventually it's the way to go

This is our relaxing time. Even when we bitch at each other it’s cause we have played together for over a decade. Only one that gets butt hurt is badger. Bless him. Great to have Sixpack back in the fold. Just like old times. Now if BigLotLizard and Hoos would play. That be a grand reunion.
