Blatant tanking should get people in shit. Shouldn't encourage it

I know it's tough because some teams get themselves so far in the hole with cash, but I think we should explore having a salary floor.

It's just silly when we have teams with a total payroll of $10mil. I don't know, maybe it's not a big deal and doesn't need changing, but a $40-50mil payroll floor at least seems like a solid idea.

Unlike real life, fans don't come out for young up and coming talent so if the most popular players available happen to be shit that's what I'm throwing out there for a whopping two months

Said it before. Tanking in baseball is way different than NHL or NFL. Just look at all the 1st round busts in real life and in our league. It ain't a guarantee by any stretch.

True but it's not the only reason we should try to avoid blatant tanking.

I guess I missed the blatant tanking he is doing?

Trading high dollar, older guys for younger guys to start the rebuild process is what I see.

Fairly, I haven’t looked at allllll the trades he has made so just a comment really.

I don't think anything was directed this way outside of Dan's annual troll post

Someone already stated this but its impossible to have a salary floor without not allowing teams to go over budget as when you are in debt that is the end of that. Can't really force guys to trade for bad contracts to hit a salary floor.

I do not like the idea of allowing guys to not go over budget as if you do it strategically its a really good way to increase your talent level/budget without going in to debt.

Not entirely.

If you set a floor of $50mil, and a team has a $30mil payroll, you can just take $20mil cash from them at the end of the season. This could force teams that can afford it to at least have a team with a pulse out there, and for teams who are so far in the negative, it could be a deterrent to not go so far into the negative before a rebuild.

Just don't allow them to receive Revenue Sharing.

Another idea, yea.

But you'd still prefer a $15mil tanking payroll with no rev sharing as opposed to $50mil. But if you have $15mil and we take $35mil cash, you'll be much more inclined to spend it.

But if you are under 50 due to finances taking 20 mil from them will never let them out of debt. I don’t think there is as much open tanking as people think. It’s more just some guys aren’t good at this game

You'll eventually get out of debt. But again, it can be a deterrent to going that far in the red.

You could be 5 million in debt and not get to 50. I just don’t think blatant tanking is a big issue really. All I ever want is for guys to understand the finances and have a plan. We just have a couple who can’t seem to learn the game or just aren’t trying to
