The Florida people are already stating how ridiculous it is to go around killing innocent gators due to a parent's mistake.

I just can't with people sometimes.

One of my former players was drafted over the weekend, 20th Round by the Dodgers. Pick 611 in the draft. He went to Glendale to sign yesterday and is going to Ogden, Utah. Raptors! His name is Brock Carpenter, 3B. Awesome kid.

You can't blame the father for this one. He was walking with his son holding his hand in water a few inches deep. I personally know there are a lot of alligators in that lake because I've been there so many times. But you're right. How often do they need to deal with gators in Nebraska?
I couldn't even imagine going through something like this. He's going to have to deal with this the rest of his life.

why are we killing gators to find a kid thats been dead for almost a day now? Did they think the 2 yr old rode its back, back to the gator fortress to lead them? It sucks but hes dead.

They want to find his remains for the family for closure. Besides that, that gator has already killed one person. They need to find that particular one and kill it. If it is that bold once, it will try it again.

Body has been located fully intact. They are saying gators like their prey to decompose a bit when it is that large and probably left him versus eating right away due to all the activity around.

Unnerving hearing that at the press conference.

Very awful to read. The body was 10-15 yards from the point where the gator first took him? Assuming the gator was holding the child underwater to drown him, but to know he was right there and they didn't/couldn't find him/get him back before it was too late. Unclear whether the father was able to do anything when they say he tried to "wrestle" with the gator. One article I read had said that the toddler was the only one in the water and both parents were on the beach nearby. Seems to somehow make more sense. I'd like to think that if the father was in the water with the kid, he's either coming out of the water with the kid, or not coming out at all.

They said the father wrestled with the gator so... don't let go? But anyway, it seems clear the gator didn't go far, so it's awful to think they were there splashing around and the kid/gator were within such a close distance and they didn't stumble upon them when (maybe?) it might have mattered.

Don't let go, easier said than done.

Could the kid have been drug farther out but randomly float back or the gator randomly bring the kid back near that location at a later time?

Agreed, but, can you imagine letting go if you got your hands on it when it had one of your kids? Who knows if it is a realistic number, but wikipedia seems to suggest that a 7ft gator (if that was truly the size) would weigh between 120 and 160 lbs depending on male or female.

I'm sure they won't know if the body came back to that point or was left there by the gator to decompose and eat later (as previously mentioned). It would seem... odd, that it would end up so close to where it started.

Aren't gators capable or a ridiculously fast roll? Can't imagine being able to hold onto a wet gator swimming away or spinning really fast

No one knows what they would do in that scenario but I would like to think I am not coming back by dying myself or with my injured child.

Sure easier said than done but I am doing every single thing I possibly can if it means being eaten by another one so be it. Not saying the dad didn't do all he could have done or tried but the thought of my kid being taken like that with screams and splashes and everything else.

Also, I understand you cannot get rid of every single gator in a body of water in Florida but Disney hires full time people to capture and relocate gators from their canals. With that being said having a "beach" near a high dollar resort knowing full well there are hundreds of gators in your lakes is not gonna bode well for them here I would imagine.

Freak accident for all and very rare for a gator casualty even in Florida but gator signage at the minimum versus a generic no swimming needs to go up.
