I just read that they were negotiating with one of the suspects, he demanded a cell phone, talks broke down so they brought him a "cell phone" which was actually an explosive device and Dallas PD detonated it killing him.

Late to the convo on the first shooting this week.

Many articles bring up that Sterling was in an open carry state. They fail to make the distinction between open carry and concealed carry. Open carry is allowed without permit as long as you meet certain requirements, including but not limited to not being a recent felon, which Sterling was. So, he could not practice open carry in LA. He was also not open carrying, he was concealed carrying.

I guess I'm somewhat shocked that people are surprised that a (many times over) convicted felon who was illegally carrying a concealed weapon, a weapon which was found by police during what appeared to be a struggle to arrest him for said weapon, was shot and killed. Is this a case that someone protesting unjustified killings should point to? It doesn't seem to be one that would help the cause...

It could have certainly been handled differently and gone down differently (which you can say about anything anytime), but with what happened, it doesn't seem surprising. It seems like a lot of cause and effect resulted in the outcome.

I have no clue what it's like to be black and deal with the cops, but I'm fairly certain on average, I'm much better off dealing with cops as a white person, so I can understand why there would be anger in general. But it seems like the wrong cases are being propped up for the cause. First, Mike Brown/Ferguson and now Sterling/Baton Route...both just didn't seem like very good dudes based on their past arrest history, and both seem to have strong cases of justified shootings(of course, that's not a guarantee yet on the new one, but seems like the case can be made as of now).

There's no video, but early in this one, it seems like the Minnesota shooting could end up being a legit case to prop up for the cause of cops treatment of black people.

I agree, these protests would have a stronger case if they wouldn't try to rally around the Mike Brown's. They need to really rally around the Minnesota shooting, that appears to be completely unjustified at first glance.

Shooter identified as Micah Xavier Johnson. His instagram account says he lives his family and he's from Dallas. It ends with saying he hates cops

this is fucking hysterical.

Why is it hysterical? We have a video. Does the video put us in the struggle that is going on? No, it gives a viewpoint. Are we able to tell from that video whether he was reaching for a gun that was definitely in his pocket? Nope. The video only conclusively shows that there are three people on the ground and all of them are armed. Two of them, by reason of their training, want to detain/disarm the third and, based on how the video progresses, the third does not appear to want to be detained/disarmed. A very real outcome of that situation is someone being shot. It could have been any of those three people. What part of that is hysterical to you?
