If Portugal actually comes out and PLAYS (instead of their recent tactics of sitting back in defense and letting Ronaldo dive and flop all over the place, trying to win FKs), this could be one of the matches of the tournament.

Thanks tips. I mean, they're only the #2 and #3 ranked teams in the world...

Lol those rankings are a joke. Portugal's not the 3rd best team in the world. Not even close. I'd easily take the Dutch, Brazil, Spain, Germany, even Argentina over Portugal.

And just because teams are "ranked" high doesn't mean you'll get an entertaining match. Would you expect an entertaining match between Italy (ranked 5th) and England (ranked 8th)?

Those rankings hold little weight.

Ok, the vuvuzelas haven't bothered me to this point in the tournament. But the somewhat organized fashion in which they're blowing them during this match have finally pushed me over the edge. Fuck the vuvuzela!

+1

They know that the broadcast trucks are trying to drown them out, so they've started the "vuvuzela chanting"

Thank god these stupid things won't be allowed in Brazil. We'll get to hear singing again.

A few more extraneous tidbits from this match:

1. I love Portugal's white unis for some reason.
2. This is Spinal Tap is a classic flick, but someone needs to explain to Puyol that that movie was a satirical comedy, not something to model your entire image on.
3. Coentrao has been very impressive for Portugal. He's the most talented David Duchovny look alike I've seen in quite some time.
4. Meirales for Portugal is the bass player for Driveshaft in his spare time. "YOU ALL EVERYBODY!"
5. Hugo Almeida looks like he'd slap a bitch.

One of the best posts I've ever read in here

God I fucking hate Puyol's hair, I always have. The Almeida line is classic.

A few additional observations...

1. Ronaldo spends more time on him back than Courtney Simpson
2. These two teams cannot be any different. Spain loves to control the ball and Portugal goes full speed counter attack.
3. Casillas looks like a Guard trying to catch a fade route on a few of those shots.
4. A combination of Puyol and Messi's hair could clean the entire gulf coast.

Do they play friendlies while the World Cup is still going on?

Lol I meant that they're two high-ranked teams, so (by Nick's mindset) it should be a great match.

Then again, he's Canadian. What does he know about soccer? They see grass like 3 months a year

Wow. Spain had the ball for like 10 minutes straight and finally scored.

Portugal cant afford to sit back all game. Should open the game up for more chances.

You're obviously an idiot. How is 5 vs 8 ANYTHING like 2 v 3?

2 of the TOP 3 teams, of 2 of the top 8?

and haha @ the Canada comments, This is a league with 116* Americans, do you really think I'm gonna drop American insults. You're a clown, but you are from Italy...

Yeah, you're right. Top eight is nothing, even though there are 207 teams in the FIFA World Rankings.

And again....you missed the point that rankings don't mean SHIT. Italy and England are ranked in the top 8. Do you honestly think either are top-eight teams? Do you honestly think Portugal is a top 3 team?

Now that his WC is over, I have to say that the most dissapointing player was Ronaldo. Considering all the hype he came in with (top 2 player with Messi) did he really do anything besides bitch and complain? Take away the N. Korea game where everyone scored and what did he really do?

Villa was extremly impressive, he has now scored 7 goals in his last 8 WC games.

Don't remember who said it, but one of the commentators put it perfectly--Ronaldo doesn't trust his teammates. He's trying to do everything on his own--and that's why he keeps going down, trying to get free kicks, because he thinks it's the only way Portugal can win.

He was the same way at Manchester United, until he started trusting his teammates, especially Rooney and Rafael (who played on his side). Once he started truly trusting them, the football became more free-flowing with him, and he went on a scoring rampage.

I do not think he will EVER figure it out on the international level unless they get someone else that he trusts can link up with him and/or score on their own.

Villa is a beast; there's a reason Barca signed him for $50 million THREE DAYS after the season ended. The rich get richer.....
