Difference b/w GH and RB?

Just curious as to the reasoning why people seem to favor RockBand? I was at GameStop today and I was checking out Guitar Hero World Tour, playlist seems very similar, a little better IMO actually, drums seem better with the 2 overhead cymbals, but I didnt notice a drum pedal on GH, and they have a create a song function that seems cool.

just me, but I am not buying a game to "Create a Song". I just want to play the game. Now that feature will entice a lot of people, but it does not do anything for me. As far as the cymbals go, RB will have a cymbal add-on later, but again that it not a huge need IMO. I do like guitar hero and as long as I can use my RB controller I will pick up the game only. I do not want to drop another 150-180....

I will mostly likely buy the game as well, but RB's 4 drum pads, and soon to be 3 cymbal add ons seem to be better that GH. I agree on the create a song, that just isn't for me. Anyone know if GH World Tour has the function to upload GH3 songs similar to the RB2 uploading of RB1 songs?

For me its simple.

I have over 150 downloaded songs from Rock Band.

Already have all the instruments.

AND RB came out first with the complete instrument set so thats why I have it over just GH at the time.

I will rent the GH since I believe all the instruments now work on all the games no matter which game its for.

highly doubtful since its only guitar on those songs, and now it has a mic and drums

Good point, didn't even think of that.

from the ign review regarding create a song:

The end result is that the songs sound only slightly better than a MIDI song, and I don't know how much of that I could take over the long run. Yeah, it might be funny to play a new wave version of the Smurfs theme song, but I doubt anyone will take any music recorded here seriously since everything winds up sounding like a ringtone

Guitar Hero World Tour is a fun title, to be sure, but it's also a disappointment in a lot of respects. A number of things it tries to accomplish were already done better in Rock Band, which you might figure would have provided a simple blueprint to be followed and expanded upon, but that's not the case. The music creation tools are a great idea in theory, but the end result isn't as robust as I would have hoped it would be, both in terms of abilities as well as the songs that come out the other end.

The game does have a good bit going for it and can serve to act as a stepping-off point for next year's game, whatever form that might take. Unfortunately, I thought the same of Guitar Hero III, and here we are

Like Nasty said, RB is the original. Also, they have Harmonix.

So here's my first impression. Keep in mind that I have Rock Band for XBox360 and got GHWT for PS3.

The guitar itself is very nice, the slide bar feature is different but still getting used to it. I certainly had fun tapping out notes on faster songs.

The drumset is so much better than RB. The three drums and cymbals are much more comfortable. It has a slight more tilting to the whole thing, so it sits better in front of you. The kick-pedal is nice and sturdy and doesn't have to "hing" on the base, which I prefer to move it around. Having it wireless..hands down dominates. I find drumming much better and fluid in this game.

Microphone is the same...not wireless.

The game itself is pretty much the guitar hero version of rock band. I do like the look of the game better and the round notes opposed to the square ones..but that is nothing important.
The song list is pretty impressive and diverse. I couldn't see if downloading GHIII songs would work because I previously had it for the 360, but I think they might.

Because I'm pretty much transferring most of my gaming to PS3 instead of XBox360, that is why I got GHWT. I would say that if you already own RB or RB2 for the PS3, don't bother with GHWT. The major difference is the music creator...and simply put, I spent about 15 mins on it before I got frustrated and quit. Maybe with more time it might prove to be fun, but they made it way too complicated for the casual gamer.

Overall, I love the game itself, it runs pretty much identical with RB from the band play to single play. I used the old wired Xplorer controllers with RB (from GHII) and am in 7th heaven with the wireless guitar and drums. So an obvious upgrade for me and well worth it. Most of you guys seem pretty into RB, so I would definitely say to save your money for another day. If you don't have either, it's a toss-up.

So am I correct in saying that we can rent GHWT and now play with the RB instruments after this last update???

I wanted to rent it and compare as I have NEVER played a GH title before.
