How have you changed?

I'm not sure what spurred my thinking about this, but I've realized that I have really changed as an NDL player in my time. I have always preferred the passing game to running but early in my NDL time I ran the ball constantly. The flat out truth of the reason for me doing this was that I wanted to win. I wasn't very good as a passer online and I wanted to win games so I ran it. I just so happened to have a pretty good running team with Ball State and was able to have some 8-9 win seasons, get to a couple MAC Championship games, and a bowl game just about every year. On defense, I was beyond incompetent. I controlled the DT and let the game do most of the work.
Now, I think most people know that I throw the ball and throw it a lot. I'm doing what I enjoy and I really could care less about winning. On D, I control the MLB because it makes it more interesting and it's more fun making plays that way. I've been working on controlling the FS in OD and offline games for the same reason.

So how have you changed in your NDL career?

I started off running and I still am a running team so I haven't changed in that respect. I've never been able to pass down field so all my passes have been under 10 yards but will go down field just to keep the defense honest here and there. My biggest change since starting out in season 6 is that I don't play this game at all unless it's a NDL game. I remember back in the day I'd spend hours playing online practicing new things to get better. Now all I play is the 36 required games per NCAA release and my Cup games. I enjoy the brotherhood of the league more than the game so that is the only reason I play this game.

my mentality about playing has certainly changed. like just about everyone, when i came i wanted to win and 'show my skills'. that lasted about 2 seasons tops. i began to pride myself on my ability to run just about everything in my book. for like 8 or 9 straight seasons i've had 5 or 6 guys average around the same amount of catches. part of that is never having a true go to guy, but mostly its because i try to run so many plays. early on i would run the same type of plays over and over so i'd have 2 or 3 guys lead my team in stats... now the balance is borderline silly as i had multiple games last season where i'd have 8 or 9 different players catch a pass. i also almost always finish a season around 50/50 pass to run.

i know its silly and unneccessary to be that spread out and that even on run to pass but i get great satisfaction out of going 12-1 last season and not having 1 player up for any awards despite having a top offense.

I think I've only won 2 or 3 player awards in my entire NDL career.

I also always spread out my WR stats, though I'm not a 50/50 run/pass guy, i just like to throw it around.

I try and play as Bama does on offense and always have. Pass enough so you can run. Defensively, Control all 4 D-lineman and sometimes the Middle LB.

When I first came in I wanted to win and be recognized like the big dogs in the league but as time and seasons passed I've been content with just being able to play with the guys I know and have fun and not worry about lobby room tactics. Building friendships like the one I have with Doc aka Shawn and VT aka Chase. VT is probably who I've known the longest as he was the very first person I played in an online game when they first dropped and he and I have an annual VT/Miami game every version. Doc has been a friend since my son was born and we have basically watched our children grow up together. He has a pretty awesome man cave also lol. I still get that feeling from time to time like I want to show my stick skills just to gain a ounce of the gaming respect that mike, shell, nole etc have. but then I just tell myself to prove it on the field with an awesome and fun experience. So win or lose I don't care. I will probably never make it to a big dance but I will have fun play everyone I encounter each and every season ( Block knows what I'm talking about lol ). I love this league and the community we have. I don't think I could have metter a better group of guys. Thanks for having me.

I used to be a balanced offensive coach and run quite a bit.

Now I'm about 80/20 pass to run ratio.

And now I'm flexboning it just to keep shit interesting but I have a feeling that will last 2 games or so

I'm pretty much just like dave above. I consider myself balance, but probably favor the running plays more. I take a great deal of pride in using my whole playbook. Im always happy if I have 7 or 8 different recievers catching a pass at the end of a game. Not much has changed this year, still a balanced coach still try to get everyone a touch. When I came into the league, I was more interested and happy playing "sim" Coaches. Love seeing everyones approach to offense. Was never a big passer, probably because I grew up on pounding the football (old b10 style) and in high school we ran the veer. I've had it beat into my head, you win football games by running the football.

Offense is more geared to the pass and less conventional. Ran a pretty standard 2-wr offense when I came in. Now, I spread teams out a bit more with 3 and 4-wr looks. Running game has gone away from power to more of a mix of power/perimeter.

Defense is more of a zone-blitzing style as opposed to dropping 7-8 back 75% of the time. I think I controlled the mlb and rolb when I came in. Now I control the fs more, but rotate to other positions during the game. A lot funner that way for me as I like the challenge.

In general, I'm more of a play-to-play guy than a scheme guy. I like playing so many different people because you have different things to try and adjust to. My favorite part of playing sports games and especially being here. Winning is cool, but I've learned to enjoy shooting the shit (mic or aim) with my opponent for an hour about whatever.

i play exactly the same but since i;m not as "passionate" about winning, i take waaay more risks when passing

if i threw 10 ints in a season i'd actually be "upset" with myself..shit...i remember i'd get pissed if i won 38-7 had 350 yards passing and 4 tds...but with 1 int...which would ruin my day

now i just chucnk it up and whateva happens happens

i still try to run more than i should....i havent had a "great" run game since Chris johnson at ECu in season 6

When online stats used to keep track of shit like this - ya know, when EA had good ideas - I ran the ball 80+% of the time with 50% of those runs being options. That doesn't happen any more. Nor does winning.

Until this season, bitchclowns!

I haven't changed much since I first started in Season 7, I have from the beginning of the league always been into spreading the ball to every receiver and one of my goals is to try to run every play in the playbook.

I also change strategies based on what kind of team I have. With ASU they had such great WR's that I used a lot of Shotgun and 4-5 wide sets to get the ball into their hands. I could then mix it up with some runs from shotgun and had decent success. With teams like WSU and Cal I could run more of a west coast offense because I finally had a good running back and blocking.

With Utah State, well I haven't played a game yet so only time will tell ;)

Quack 8-)
