There has been a surprisingly lack of bitching about this version it seems. We've had a few threads but the patches have done work on the defense I think. One thing that I am really liking this version is kickoff/punt returns. They seemed to have finally gotten them right. There is no rhyme or reason for breaking one but it does happen and seems to because of 1 great block or 1 great missed tackle.

my favorite part of the game is probably everyones least favorite, i love the defense.

i think its the first game in ages where you have to mix it up. in the past many, including me, got by on having decent user skills and playing a base (cover 2, cover 3, etc) style of defense and just playing that most of the game and mixing in some blitzes occasionally. this is the first version i can remember that if a guy does that he's going to get shredded up. this year you need to really mix it up and all sorts of plays, styles and blitzes can be effective. for someone like me that loves to blitz, i love having the option of brining a corner off the edge or a safety where in the past those blitzes were almost always just a waste of time. i also think the zones have their faults but i play alot of zone and its been extremely effective as i'm near the top of the league in int's.

not saying the defense is perfect, or even good, just think the tweaks allow for more defensive variety which is obviously a good thing.

I agree, for all of its flaws the defense has a lot to like vs what the norm has been for many years.

Truth. I've evolved from zone to zone blitzing a bit more. Love the challenge.
