OK so WJ and I are playing the NDL title game. I jump out to a 7-0 lead, but then WJ gets those Trojans going and makes the score 21-7 with about 2 minutes to go before halftime. Florida is driving down the field with about a 1:30 to go in the first half and looks to have a touchdown on a post route to Riley Cooper, but Taylor Mays makes a great break on the ball and intercepts the pass. It looks like Mays is going to be taken down in the end zone, but he breaks a tackle and races 100 yards the other way to give USC a commanding 28-7 lead. Florida, trying to get ignite some type of spark quickly goes down the field, but have to settle for a field goal right before the half to make the score USC 28 Florida 10 at halftime.
USC gets the ball to start the second half and quickly go three and out thanks to some great defense by the Gators. Florida marches down the field and scores on a Tim Tebow 1-yard QB sneak to make the score 28-17. On USC's ensuing possesion Brandon Spikes intecepts a crossing route intended for Trojan WR Travon Patterson; the Gators are back in the ball game. The Gators are forced to settle for a Caleb Sturgis FG to make the score 28-20 USC. On USC's next possession Sanchez again throws an interception--this time to Janoris Jenkins--giving the Gators a ton of momentum. A few plays later the Gators are in the end zone thanks to another Tim Tebow touchdown run to make the score 28-27 USC; the Gators are now down by just a single point after having trailed at the half by 18 points.
With the game now into the fourth quarter the Gators again manage to stop USC and get the ball back. The Gators take their first lead of the ball game since about the 4 minute mark in the first quarter on a Tim Tebow to Louis Murphy touchdown pass from about 25 yards out. Florida now leads USC 34-28. USC, looking to get themselves back in the ball game, look deep to Vidal Hazelton one on one with Wondy Pierre-Louis. It looks as though Hazelton is going to come down with the ball, but Wondy puts on his Air Jordans and intercepts the pass with just over 3 minutes left to go in the game. Florida then puts together a short drive and manages to make the score 37-28 with just about 1:30 left to go in the game thanks to a 58-yard field goal by Caleb Sturgis. Gators win right? Not so fast my friend...
USC comes out on fire as Sanchez finds Patrick Turner (6'5") one-on-one with Joe Haden (5'10"). The catch puts USC inside the Florida 3 yard line with about 1:05 to go in the ball game. With exactly 1 minute left to go in the ball game Sanchez keeps the ball and plows his way into the end zone to make the score 37-34 and as USC lines up for the extra point...you guessed it...FUCKING EA DISCONNECTS BOTH PARTIES FROM THE GAME! Yippie! I heart EA!
After talking to each other on AIM both coaches agree to play a 1 minute quarter with USC kicking the ball off to Florida. Both coaches agree that the score is 37-35 Florida, assuming David Buehler made the extra point on the Matt Sanchez touchdown run. USC lines up for the onside kick and wouldn't you know it they recover it. This crazy game just keeps on getting crazier. All USC needs is a field goal to win. On USC's first play, with just one timeout remaining, Sanchez finds an open man to give the Trojans a first down. On their second play Joe McKnight creeps out of the backfield and is being covered one-on-one with Major Wright. Sanchez throws the ball to McKnight and it's....INTERCEPTED BY WRIGHT! The Florida Gators are you NDL Season 14 National Champions!
This was one of the most insane games I've been a part of and it sucks that EA had to erase all the potential highlights with the disconnect. Great game WJ, this was truly an epic NDL championship game.
