NDL National Championship

So Cal is assured of a spot in the title game, who will he play??
Of course if Bigmike beats Doodee, its a given but what if he loses???
NDL BCS MADNES ensues!!
We have Shel who beat up on BigMike in the NDL Cup championship, but lost to an unranked 8-4 Rutgers squad.
We have Steam who only lost to BigMike BUT did not even win his own conference.
Then we have a SUPER long shot of TCU who also has only one loss, but it was to Colorado State. Dont see him being able to bust into the national championship scene.
Basically it will come down to Shel or Steam if BigMike loses and I personally would vote Shel on my ballot. He has turned that squad around after the Rutgers loss, won his conference, and already showed he deserves to be in the championship with a big win over Mike in the Cup.
Sure this will all be a moot point once/if Mike beats Doodee. Doodee has beat him before and could be done again!
What say you???

no way TCU
IF..and a big IF....TCu goes 12-0...THEN it would be a very interesting debate...but as a non bcs team....not with 1 loss
basically it has to come down to Shel and Mike
THEN it depends on how Uf lost the game.
close? by a fg?
LSU blow Uf out? UF came back late with a fumble recovery?
I think the edge has to goto Florida.
I always vote underdog and in a close situation where all things are equal...I would vote for the guy who doesnt have a champ title or never been to a champ game.
thats the homer pick obviously cause Shel is NDL Florida but in thinking about it..I'd vote the same way if it were my own team vs someone who hasnt had a shot

Thats an interesting way of looking at it as well.
Taking into the factor of their previous NDL career.
Steam has a heck of an arguement but unfortunately he is in the same division and conference as Mike and I have a hard time putting a team into the championship that hasnt even won their own conference.
Sure its happened before, but thats just my take on it. He does have the "best" loss.
I personally would love to see the UF-PSU rematch as Shel destroyed Mike but Mike also had 4 or 5 fumbles and Shel made em pay.
Would be interesting to see how that one played out.
Outlaw hasnt been talked about much but awesome season and congrats on your first championship game appearance. Best should be outlawed in this game.

A cup game should be irrelevant when it comes to the NDL champ game matchup.

agreed 100%
nothing should matter other then the resume from that particular season.

Agreed but at the same time it does make you at least think of the matchup in my opinion.

I dont think Cal makes it....they lose one of the next three games...they go to Oregon, back home for USC, then at UCLA....then finish on the road at Washington too.

If bigMike loss in the sec championship it would be hard for me to put him still in the championship. Even though for most of the season I had him #1.. reason is I just have a hard time putting a team in the national championship whom lost their very last game, but I dont know, maybe if it was close.
Cause he still has wins over FSU, Tenn, Mia, Ga, and LSU earlier in year.
THen if he lose, it would come down to Penn St, and Tenn.
Excellent year by Penn St, one loss, early in year recovered nice, Best Win came against 10-2 Illinois, most seasons, wins over Ohio St, and Michigan would mean more but this season they struggled.
Tenn best wins are 9-3 Georgia, usually wins against Bama and Ole Miss would look better but Bama cooled down, and Miss was up and down.
So very similar for penn st and Tenn there in strength of wins.
Better loss is Tenn between the two, losing to FL, by 7 early.
Decisions Decisions Decisions, But all Moot if Florida takes care of business.

This year I m having more faith in Cal then I had in a while, that they dont fall apart mentally, that has been there problem in recent seasons. All the talent to match up with any team in the country, but no mental toughness.
The the deciding game I believe is the first one, Oregon, It is a very tough place to play, and they have not won at Autzen in their last 7 tries. If they can beat Oregon on the road in that hostile environment, then I believe they run the table.
Unless the USC qbs have a huge turnaround I believe Cal can win that game at home. And if they get past Oregon and USC, they will run the table.

If BigMike drops the soap against LSU, Penn State and Cal will dance for the title.
Log jam at the end of the season creates nothing but madness, but truth is you have to look at the body of work and also 'when' these loses happened.
You lose in weeks 9 or later, it's the kiss of death add that to not winning your conference, then you have to get to the back of the bus.

Agree for the most part but what if that loss is in a conference championship game that other conferences dont have to play in??
See OU against Kansas State a couple years back.
Discussion reasons of course.

i think when a loss happens is ridiculous
you give me two resumes to look at and i'll make a decision on which is more impressive
the date something happens is a really ridiculous reason to penalize someone when you really think about it
its a body of work and UF has the most impressive and has had the most impressive all season

I agree Dave, BUT if we are being realistic and a sim league the real life counterpart of college football would penalize that team when they lose.
Would be best to take the 1 loss teams, take the name off the sheet, and look at the body of work and whoever is the best gets the nod.
This is all just for discussion sakes to get some talk going into the post season and the next season for us since the NDL forum has been dead.

Only if Florida gets blown out will they not play for the title. If they get raped than Shel makes it

I agree that it will be and should be Florida vs CAL...But if for some reason Florida does lose in the championship game keep this in mind: Bigdyke and I had to play twice, First game I went up by 3 with 20+ seconds left only to have him tie it on a long FG and then have the game freeze up in between the end of the game and overtime. Second game I fell down 31-3 after 3 turnovers early in the first half...only to rally and lose by 7....
Just to state my case...
Personally I could never vote for someone that lost to an unranked team at some point in the season... Nothing against shell I think he is a very deserving canidate with a tough team..

Good stuff Steam.
Yea, based on resume alone and you having the "best" loss you make a strong case at getting in.
BUT just like you cant vote for a team that lost to an unranked team, my own personal opinion is I can vote for a team that didnt even win its own conference into the national championship.
Doodee is laughing right now having to play BigMike and making all this awesome discussion not worth anything if he loses.
