Bowl Eligibility
This is obvious if you just look at the standings, but since I did already, I'll save you the time:
No Independents finished with more than 4 wins
42 BCS teams finished with 6+ wins
17 non-BCS teams finished with 7+ wins
8 non-BCS teams finished with 6 wins
__________________this totals=
67 teams are bowl eligible this season finishing at least with 6 wins.
After looking at Champs "Bowl Predictions" it showed 33 bowl games including the NDL Championship. That leaves 66 teams to go bowling.
That leaves one poor team out...whom will it be????

Re: Bowl Eligibility
There was 32 bowls games last season and 2 more were added this season. Will those bowls be included? If so that leaves 68 teams. Now assuming Navy doesnt qualify for the congressional bowl or whatever they call it everyone gets in with a .500 record 1 under .500

Re: Bowl Eligibility
Just out of curiousity, if Nole or Mike get to #3 in both polls and Corey stays down around 5 or 6 in the Massey polls, is it possible that an undefeated USC gets left out of the championship game???
We've got controversy.

Re: Bowl Eligibility
I cant predict what the result will be but you guys are thinking of the polls as 33% coaches and where the stand, 33% media and where they stand, and 33% massey and where they stand
so i think you're thinking usc could be 1,1,7
versus a rutgers who could be 3,3,1 (in theory if ranked #1 by massey)
thats not the case.
our bcs formula is just about as complex as the real life one.
we factor in the amount of votes and 1st place votes for both polls assigning a value based on that so there will be a big diff in those 2 polls alone with 2 undefated teams.
the 3rd place team will be WAAAY behind the 1st place team..probably too far for any kinda massey ranking to mess up.
then for massey we dont just take the straight massey rank....we use it but we get a "computer" rank based on massey rank, SOS and etc
then it all is factored in together with appropriate weightings to get a bcs number.
...and dont forget, there is an AUTOMATIC adding of 1 point for each loss in the bcs formula tabulation.
...so to answer the question...in theory..sure..just like in real life in some kinda of mathematical miracle a pitt or rutgers could jump usc
but from just looking at the numbers off the top of my head....the formula will work and it wont happen.

Re: Bowl Eligibility
I was just throwing it out there.
As wrong as it'd be, it seemed plausible before Nole broke it down that Corey could get left out.
But Nole cleared it up, even though I have no idea how to understand that formula, lol.

Signed your friends,
Big 12 & SECBesides, the only thing that would do is add another win to a team in the Big 10, meaning we'd still have just as many teams eligible. Also, instead of a Champ game, we get ND as the ugly stepbrother
