yesterday my wife was driving home with kids and our 1999 chevy tahoe with 75,000 miles on it. when going down the street, the car stopped moving. so she barely was able to pull over.she calls me so i drive overe th e where she is at .
when i get there, i get in the car and it starts fine i drive it around the parking lot and then i accelerate up a little hill. i feel the engine rev up, but the truck start to roll backwards.so i put it in 1st ,2nd and even reverse and the truck still moves backwards. the engine reeves up fine ,but its not catching on transmission.about 2 months ago, i had a leak in the transmission housing that needed a new seal. so the shop replaced the seal . the had to take apart the entire transmission, and now this. any help on what to look for or possible causes to look at before i head over to shop to give them hell.

Re: Car Help
Thats odd. it either sounds like the tranny isnt engaging or the drivetrain went out. If the engine is revving but you arent getting any forward movement it would more than likely have to be one of those.
Do you hear any grinding like stripped grears?
Had you in hte last 2 months noticed any transmission slippage?

Re: Car Help
I would check the cayalytic converter. It happened in my truck and I would have thought transmission too.
What happens is the catalytic converter fallls apart inside and blocks the exhaust. The engine will rev and sounds like its running fine, but no power.
When it happend to my truck, I couldnt make it up a small incline and it actually started rolling backwards.
Especially if it has 75000 miles on it, I would check with an exhaust/muffler shop before you start tearing apart the tranny.
Hope that helps

Also if it was the CC it would be smoking a bunch from the tail pipes. At least thats what mine was doing when the CC went out.
