The Idaho Decision
The Idaho Decision
I take it you all saw the Humanitarian bowl game. Idaho going for 2 and the win instead of a tie. My question is, how would this translate to NDL play? Would this be acceptable for some one to do? Personally its always been something I've believed in and I like the idea of doing it. Its the ultimate risk/reward obviously. I'm just wondering if it would be frowned upon if done in an NDL game cause I've considered it before but never had balls to do it and wasn't really sure what kind of reaction or uproar it'd cause so I've never done it. Also I've never seen it done in NDL, but if I had to bet I would say its been done before?

Re: The Idaho Decision
Why wouldn't you do it? I have won once doing this and lost once when someone did it to me. If you are the underdog and you have a chance to win like that what more could you ask for?
Re: The Idaho Decision
I had Arkansas State do it to me this year. It didn't work for him, I didn't blame him for doing it at all.

Re: The Idaho Decision
Dude, I am surprised people in this league don't complain about opponents going for it ... on first down. Let me impart some advice on you: do what you feel is right as far as decisions such as this. I am sure there have been a situation or two where I went for it on fourth down where I have technically should not have (I think I have gone for it on fourth-and-two from the 42, or something similar, on a few occasions). I get great coaching reports.
I am very, very lenient. You are virtually assured five fives from me aside from REALISM where I want you to do shit like .... this Idaho example. That aside, I am just looking for flat-out cheaters and, despite the forum posts and subtle innuendos in some game recaps, I think most people are on the same idea as me. Are you going for two after acting like Fran Tarkenton every play? Did you run three straight dives that - suddenly - resembled sweeps? No? Then people will cut you slack.
As for your point, at face value, no ... and if anyone ever faults you for doing such, they shouldn't be in this league. "Moderation" should not only apply to your opponent, it should apply to you and how much you are willing to tolerate.

Re: The Idaho Decision
I just needed some assurance before I pulled something like this off or much less attempted it. I was going to consider doing it in my Rose bowl, but I didn't have to sweat this decision because I threw a pick to Penn State in my last drive where I was trying to get the 8 pts for a 18-17 win.

Re: The Idaho Decision
I wouldnt complain! Things to complain about are things that are taking advantage of AI and those types of situations. It's 50-50 on that situation and its NOT taking advantage of AI so no complaint from me.

I am just now getting to where I can make multiple reads on a pass play (after watching Nolie sit in the pocket for 10 minutes in the Nat. Champ Game, I figured i could do that also.Frankie7512 wrote:I wouldnt complain! Things to complain about are things that are taking advantage of AI and those types of situations. No as for AI: i still dont know what to look for and what it is. Where the CPU is dumb and where it is not. I know when I do something and it is somewhat AI ? I can assure you it is not because I am trying to cheat.
My only advice is to stay within your playcalling. if you have ran it all game then on the 2pt convers. you come out in a 5-wide I would suspect that. Or am I wrong in this. just asking.
Re: The Idaho Decision
My philosphy about this game and the people I play against. Its super simple:
If it happens on a Saturday (or Thursday, Friday, blah, blah, blah)- then feel free to do it.
Considering I am the biggest Scrim Whore in this league, I have had a chance to play lots of our guys and the consensus of those I have played is much the same.
Hooray for us moving away from the "Bitching" and more towards the uniqueness of college football.
PS....anyone up for a scrim?

It isn't 50/50. It is between 42 and 47 percent.
Sorry. I was twitching.

Re: The Idaho Decision
its never been against the rules
only thing i'd say is know your opponent and how it could effect your coaches
is it fair that you could be graded low for something completely legit?
no
but we're in a video game world and the system is what it is
i have no issue with someone who does it and neither does 90% of ndl
but that still leaves 10-12 guys who even if they say they have no issue with it,....could have sour grapes and lower your grade
imo if im on offense, i'd rather the ot and not chance sour grapes and low report
but yeah, if you're ever playing me..go for it. its completely legal and legit

Re: The Idaho Decision
I'd only do this if I was the away team. I have always believed in the play for the tie as the home team and play for the win as the away team, especially if you are the lesser ranked team.

Re: The Idaho Decision
Ive gone for it three times this year to win the game.
Once vs. FSU and Dawgit. I converted but unfortunately there were 40 seconds left, lol. I lost on a last second fg.
I went again vs. VT in an overtime. If I had converted the game was won but the def stood tall-loss.
I went for it again this season in my bowl game vs Illinois. I converted to lead 18-17 but again too much time left on the clock-1 min or so. Again, I lost on a last second field goal.
Not one player complained about me going for it but I lost all three games. So, moral of the story-when going for two leave no time on the clock.

If someone docked you for going for the win at the end of the game their report should be proof read and they should be docked for being a dip shit. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Completely agree, and to add to that they should be put on probation.packsyD22 wrote:If someone docked you for going for the win at the end of the game their report should be proof read and they should be docked for being a dip shit. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Re: The Idaho Decision

In this particular game, I don't blame VVV going for the win. If I was in his shoes I would have done the same thing. It was a game early in the season, Clemson had struggled in close contest and needed a big win.
This time around, it didn't pan out but who knows next time it just may. It's the ultimate risk reward scenario and given the right situations it can be very compelling.
Overall I don't have any issue with this call. If it's for 'the win' thats one thing, but if you're doing it for the sake of more points or to pad a lead you already have.
