Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers

LOL!

Big Fourteen title game every year!
They are not going to put ND, Michigan, MSU, Ohio State, and PSU in the same bracket.

I need that explained to me. Despite how much I love college ball and Nebraska, I don't "show up" until the Spring Game. Unless some kid from my home is being recruited (LOL!), I know shit about the guy, so I don't pay attention.

What is Project 40?

I can dream, can't I? I just did it geographically. I want ND in Nebraska's division so they can whoop their asses eight times a decade.

Project 40 is the name given to a loophole that allows schools to accept players that dont meet the minimum NCAA requirement for getting into school (grade point average on core classes and ACT or SAT score). The minimum requirements are based on a sliding scale, so you can get a very bad ACT and have a good GPA and get in, or vice versa.

A project 40 kid (also known as a bridge program) doesnt meet those guidelines so, he gets into school and has 1 year to stay eligible (cannot play) and get to stay on scholarship. Another way schools get around the min. guidelines is by having players take or retake their core classes through online correspondence courses. This artificially raises the GPA and lowers the ACT requirement.

Very few BT schools allow correspondence courses and those that do, are regulated by the BT. I dont think this has ever really been abused at NU like it has at OK, but you are always able to get one or two kids in that you really wanted that you normally wouldnt have.

Yea that would be a dream scenario for NU. Probably BCS every year.

Minimum NCAA requirement is 17. So that is probably what they used. Nothing wrong with it in moderation, but OU and some of the lower rated B12 schools (along with the SEC) really abuse it.

NU shoots down report of contact with Big Ten

By Lee Barfknecht
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER « Big Red TodayRSS SHARE

“The University of Nebraska has not been offered any opportunity to move from the Big 12,'' said Meg Lauerman, a spokesperson with Chancellor Harvey Perlman's office.

WHB, a radio station in Kansas City, Mo., cited anonymous sources in claiming that Nebraska, Missouri, Notre Dame and Rutgers had been invited to go to the Big Ten, which announced last winter that it is considering expanding from its current 11-team arrangement.

A Nebraska source said Monday that Husker Athletic Director Tom Osborne met with some coaches last week and said he didn't expect the Big Ten CEOs to gather until mid-June or later to discuss any moves. Other athletic department officials who saw Osborne Sunday night said he made no mention of any such invitation.

The university's statement:

“We recognize the intense speculation about conference realignment and the possible impact it may have on Nebraska. Both Chancellor Harvey Perlman and Athletic Director Tom Osborne have indicated that the university would consider any opportunity that would advance the interests of the university.

“The University of Nebraska has not been offered any opportunity to move from the Big 12. We remain committed to the success of the Big 12 Conference. Until the Big 10 Conference makes and announces its decision on expansion, the University of Nebraska will have no further comment and we do not intend to continue to respond further to questions or speculations on this subject.''

Well the BT did say they would tell the conferences about a month prior to informing the schools so either the report is crap (this all seems to be comming out of Mizz, wonder why?) or the schools havent been informed.

Pretty much the same way the ACC expansion went down. There were leaks well in advance that something was going on. That created a lot of speculation and public denials.

You can guarantee that there has been a lot of behind doors discussions. You usually don't publically make an offer of this magnitude unless you have already worked out the details and have the answer beforehand.

If the Big 10 expands, then the dominos are going to fall again. With the Big East weakened yet again, it might be time for the ACC to swoop in and expand all the way up the East Coast. I'd like to see Uconn, WVU, Pitt, and Syracuse added.

Sorry for the ignorance and bad info... I got my stuff wrong. The program was called Prop 48 or Prop 16. The program is not used very often. New program is a LD program, Nebraska, MSU, and Minn have it. It allows kids to get in that wouldnt normally qualify. The area that would also hurt is the BT rules regarding Junior College transfers. Very few JCs get into BT schools if they didnt qualify before.

If they do expand again, it either needs to drop BC and try for some other teams, or pull in some north east schools. BC is way up there from the rest of the league teams

Only reason the ACC would add teams is to replace any it loses.

So, if the Big 10 adds a few teams to become a 14 or 16 team league, that would include at least a few Big East schools (Rutgers, UConn, Pitt, Syracuse are options).

Then, don't be surprised if the SEC goes after Miami/FSU/Clemson/Georgia Tech to also increase its size.

Then, the ACC would look to replace what it lost by raiding the Big East again of any football playing schools, they would take USF for sure and whoever is left.

Who knows what the Big 12 will do.

If Pac 10 expands, they would take Colorado and Utah ... leaving the MWC to look for someone to replace Utah. They then would take the Big East's automatic BCS spot, since the Big East conference would be in shambles if this all happens.

And ... don't be surprised if the very first expansion move made by anybody is by the MWC ... sometime in the next few weeks.
