Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers

Come one, come all. Talk about anything not league or video game football related here.

And that concludes my discussion with you on this topic. I fucking detest assholes who think that attendance is the only means for allegiance. I've probably spent near a full four-year degree on games I've attended, merchandise I've purchased, PPV telecasts, $200 chicken parms at alumni dinners, and subscriptions to Husker Illustrated.

This isn't the 1940's where you pulled for whatever team is closest because that's your only choice. The days of :its worth the price of admission" are over because there is no need to be admitted to a game if you choose not to.

Soon, I'm going to Florida for the first time. I look forward to finalizing my status as a fan of the Miami Heat by visiting the state ... 22 years after I jumped on board. In fact, my Patriots fandom is in question since I haven't been to Massachusetts for three years. Is there a sliding scale? I attended three games in 2007, do I get leeway? What about the people in southern Connecticut? Are they not Patriots fans?

Then, the ACC would look to replace what it lost by raiding the Big East again of any football playing schools, they would take USF for sure and whoever is left.
I doubt USF is even in the discussions at this point. They would likely be left holding the bag. Very little tradition, cash strapped athletic department, bad basketball to boot. The ACC and SEC would add to react to the Big 10, regardless of whether they lost a team. No one wants to be left behind in the super conference race.
If the ACC lost three teams, including both of its Florida schools, who do you think they would look to pick up? And you have to consider that the top teams in the Big East would have already left to go to the Big 10.

Trendon thinks too Highly of Nebraska

and Terps I am pretty sure Texas gets the same cut as the other schools
The B12 TV contract rewards each team disproportionately based on the number of national apperances. Texas has always been on TV the most and therefore had the biggest piece of the pie. This is a reason why NU and Mizz would leave in a heartbeat.

The All-American numbers dont mean crap. A majority of those numbers where from the 40-60s when it was a popularity contest. It is hardly an indication of the quality of the school.

I have no problem with Nebraska, but it would be the worst school in the B10 by a long shot.

Speaking of which, why does it have to be Missouri? They are the team I dislike the most in the whole conference.

I agree with you on the Fandom topic. No need to go overboard. I am just saying its funny you show so much allegiance to a place that you make things up and you have not even been there(as far as I know.)

I Think its fine and dandy you are a fan so don't go nutso. I hate people that do that too.

I just think is funny your saying things like "biggest name in the conference" and " One of the best schools in the BIG XII in regards to education.

Its almost AS IF you fabricated all of the Nebraska bullshit in your head.

Very well then.

I just held the belief that Nebraska was a top school in the conference. Judging by the AAA and the fact that they appear to be average at least comes close to what I said.

Either way, being the Big Ten will only help.

If you understood what I see when I read you would understand why I butcher words. I am used to being made fun of for it. Not that big a deal to me.

trendon wrote:If this doesn't happen, I will be upset. I've done my reading and this is brilliant on nearly every front.

Athletically: Step up in football and basketball, the money sports. Volleyball would win 189 consecutive Big Ten games. Would this in any way impact baseball?

Education: One of the best schools in the Big XII would be dogshit in the Big Ten but you have the chance to improve.

Socially: Nebraska automatically becomes one of the big names - if not the biggest - in the conference, something they surrendered to the B12 South about eight years ago.
Again, I respect what Nebraska brings to the table but lets slow down the hyperbowl for a minute...

Athletically: Nebraska would be in the bottom quarter in basketball and would struggle to earn NCAA bids. OSU (10) and PSU (12) are both nationally rank in mens volleyball (NU is not). PSU (2), UI (4), Minn (5), all are ranked higher than NU (7) in womens volleyball and you would also have to contend with Mich (9). Dont know how you would win 189 straight games when you cant even compete with the rest of the B12 (Iowa St is ranked 6th). EDIT - Didnt mean to say compete, ment to say dominate by winning 189 straight games.
Education: I agree, the affilition can only improve Nebraska.

Socially: What the hell are you talking about? Ever heard of Ohio State? How about Michigan? Maybe your familiar with Penn State or (possibly) Notre Dame. All of these programs are just as big if not bigger than Nebraska. If you have problems with Texas (who is a monster in itself) your going to feel the same way with OSU and ND.

Missouri has the 3rd and 5th biggest TV markets in the B12, St. Louis and KC. That is why if Colorado and Missouri leave, the B12 is fucked since it will be losing its 3rd, 4th, and 5th biggest TV markets. The power in the B12 will be further centralized in Texas (1st and 2nd TV markets), and UT will have even more negotiating power in the next TV contracts (in 2 years I believe) with respect to the rest of the conference.

In the past 50 years, Nebraska leads the universe in:

- Wins
- Winning percentage
- Conference titles
- National titles (tied with Miami)
- Academic All-Americans
- Fans that showed up to a road game in South Bend.

So I don't think my claim is too outrageous.

Edit: Correction, my math sucks as much as my memory. Fifty years does not = 1970. I checked and Southern California has seven.

one of the most successful -- i would have agreed with (not THE most, but one of)

but you said biggest name and even with the winning it still doesn't make them the biggest name

the Spurs have won a few NBA titles in the past 15 years, doesn't make them a big name in the NBA

I'll argue that, in the modern era, only Michigan can compete with Nebraska as far as putting a glint in a fan's eye. Nebraska-Oklahoma used to stop the nation. Maybe Nebraska-Michigan will in 20 years.

Your list is very selective... On a side note, I have to stop visiting this board during the day. I havent done any work in the last 45 minutes...

- There are 3 BT schools with bigger attendance numbers and bigger stadiums.
- There are 2 BT schools with more BCS appearances.
- Your conference championships includes wins when Texas was not in the conference and it was very unbalanced
- The All Americans are a crap number. You have a bunch of easy classes and players who take them... Your not Stanford... Nebraska is ranked 96th in the country in education. So you have a bunch of guys who got good grades in the 96th hardest school. Hurray!!
- OSU and PSU has had more success in the last 10 years, what is your definition of the modern era? They are also monster programs.
- What the fuck does it matter how many NU fans went to ND. How can you even prove that statement. Watch me make a similar statement. Illinois is a bigger schools than Nebraska since they filled in a higher percentage of ticket sales than Nebraska did when they went to the Rose Bowl. See how ridiculous that sounds.
