The one you just posted....wow. That's an early entrant for dive of the tournamentDe Rossi is an odd character sometimes. Just glad he didn't get booked, he'd have hurt my fantasy team
You dirty little whore.
That play Dave showed is the EXACT play I was talking about when you flipped the fuck out for me saying it was the flop of the tournament.
So maybe NOW you know why I wouldn't admit why I was wrong, LOLZ.
I was talking about a foul in the 9th minute (which is 8:00 to 8:59), which is what I posted the comment from Soccernet's live chat. I think I missed YOUR foul (the one Riccio posted, in the 11th minute) because I was typing
So Shel, I apologize, we were obviously talking about different plays, and both right.
Nick....I'd send you a box full of dog shit, but it would probably cost too much to mail out of country.
Dude, if you want the box of dog shit that bad, I'll send it. It's a heartfelt gift

I've got big chunks of each group finished....just takes a long time to do all the formatting and crap and I've been busy the past few evenings. Plus it didn't seem like more than 5-6 people were checking it anyways

I'll have most of it posted tonight.

You used too much frigging soccer terminology so I only read the USA.

Oh whah.
Maybe you should realize that the reason people SPEAK like that is because it's what we read when we read about our favorite European teams; it's what we hear when we watch European matches; and it's what we say when we talk about people who live in Europe.
It's NOT a soccer field--it's a PITCH. It's NOT a jersey and shorts, it's a KIT. Soccer boots have studs on the bottom, not cleats. DEAL with it!

Not sure I've ever seen a goalie get sent off in a World Cup match.

It's a SHOT ON GOAL from a FORWARD who ran 60 YARDS in his CLEATS with his dirty UNIFORM after falling on the FIELD that his TEAM was having a difficult time playing on despite all of the PRACTICE it had with its COACH, which was very disappointing to their FANS, who were still pissed about the recent PENALTY.
I love soccer. I feel like I am watching someone broadcast an 18th Century tea dinner rather than a sporting event.
And we already went over the naming conventions of the teams. I root for the Hockey Club of Newark and Sporting Mets.

Manchester Red Devils. See? Wasn't hard.

....except there are multiple clubs in Manchester lol. Hence why there's Manchester United Football Club and Manchester City Football Club, and F.C. United of Manchester.
"Forward" is like saying a "defender" in American football--it encompasses a wide range of positions: striker, left/center/right forward, left/right winger. Each plays a different role, for example a striker is expected to score goals and do nothing more, not backtrack on defense, etc.
....isn't practice TRAINING? Isn't it called TRAINING CAMP here in the NFL?
They use the metric system everywhere outside the US; and we're stupid for not using it, it's a hell of a lot simpler and easier to use.
Don't fans SUPPORT the players?

All in all, you don't have to explain the reasons for the names. I've watched the sport long enough ... I just think it is stupid.

Just give them a different nickname like Pop Warner teams sometimes do.jsence2 wrote:trendon wrote:

Madrid Blancos
Madrid Dragons (or whatever the other teams are nicknamed)
Madrid Fire
Simple. Then the STANDINGS won't look like a word salad.
In the end, I like the game of soccer very much but the structure of the leagues infuriates me. In Trendonland, soccer is played as such.
1. With divisions and conferences
2. Unbalanced schedules
3. Sudden death OT
4. (Location) - (Nickname) teams
5. No fucking buying of players.
6. Instant replay
7. Terminology symmetry.

I think most people know I'm a huge soccer fan but I find it pretentious and fake when Americans suddenly develop this new vocabulary when talking about soccer. It's like the reject kid in high school trying to fit in with the cool group by mimicking their style.

Re: ***Official World Cup Talk Thread***
yeah same up here. I had a good laugh when the commentator goes 1, nil for the first game, then goes 1, zero, for the second game.LetsGoPeay wrote:I think most people know I'm a huge soccer fan but I find it pretentious and fake when Americans suddenly develop this new vocabulary when talking about soccer.
