Is it Time for a New PS3/Rockband songs back up thread
Over the last week after about 20 minutes my system starts to sound like a Jet engine getting ready to take off and then it will stop, the routine continues until I turn the systme off. Is this a warning that my system is very close to going out? I know Gamestop has a promotion, Get $200 trade-in credit for any PS3 system traded, I was wondering If I should take advantage of this and then turn around and buy another Ps3 System? Promotion ends 8/8/10

The one he listed above.
Gamestop is running a promo where you trade in any working PS3 towards a new slim they will give you $200 off.

Re: Is it Time for a New PS3
I would do that deal in a heartbeat. Trade that thing in and get a slim ps3 for $100. I think gamestop would give you a warranty for an extra $30-40. Doesn't it cost like $150 to send a broken ps3 to sony anyway? Might as well pay what you'd have to if it broke (which it sounds like it may be close to) for a NEW Slim ps3 instead of a lame refurbished model they send you back. The upgrade would be well worth it. I love my slim and it just overall has always seemed better than my old 80 gig that got YLOD.

I would too but I dont want to lose all the stuff on my hard drive, i.e.-over 400 rock band songs.

I don't know anything about rockband but I assume your talking about like add-on songs? You could back them up somehow I would think. Maybe on a flash drive? I don't know how large that stuff is so it might be too much for a flash drive. Also, if you downloaded those or got them through like the Playstation store, you could just re download them off your PSN account in the playstation store on the new ps3 (you wouldn't have to re-buy them they'd be in your download list cause its connected to your PSN ID in the store).Cnasty wrote:I would too but I dont want to lose all the stuff on my hard drive, i.e.-over 400 rock band songs.

Re: Is it Time for a New PS3
I hear ya but not that easy.
We set up rock band groups and have been downloading off each other's names for a long time now and we cant go back and redownload.
And the ones we have I dont think you can back up so we have what we have until dooms day comes.

Well, since the post was hijacked, I add to it.
Corey, have you tried to see if you can save your files on to a flash drive or external hard drive. I have moved files from my computer to my ps3 using a flash drive. Just a thought.

Re: Is it Time for a New PS3
Honestly I have not but I think it was Brocam or someone else who does the rock band songs thing said we can not since some of them arent original files or something?
I guess I can give it a whirl but not sure how to even do it.

So what happens to the Songs when your PS3 dies?
How much trade in towards a new slim can you get for a broken Fat boy?

Re: Is it Time for a New PS3
Im thinking the songs are gone forever and we are just biding time until that happens.
Im not sure if they give you anything for a broken one but they might.

Re: Is it Time for a New PS3/Rockband songs back up thread
Getting back to my original question, has anyone experienced my PS3 symptoms? If so how long if ever before my PS3 might go out or before the YLOD shows Up? I saw Corey's response, trying to determine how much time might be left or what other problems might be showing up in the near future?
Re: Is it Time for a New PS3/Rockband songs back up thread
YLOD is totally random from what I understand. It can go either way. My ps3 was working fine til just one day I tried to turn it on and it was done for.steelcitychaos wrote:Getting back to my original question, has anyone experienced my PS3 symptoms? Obviously, these symptoms don't sound good and could be indicating YLOD or something. It's hard to say though if anything will come from it or if there is even a problem. Try calling sony, or maybe google search and see if that can give you any help or explanation for why it might be making such loud noises and if you should be worried about it.
Re: Is it Time for a New PS3/Rockband songs back up thread
i would take advantage of the gamestop deal if your PS3 is turning into a jet engine. you may get 12 months of use or 12 days. like teewade said it is totally random as far as how long it lasts.
now with the transfer utility you can move all of your content to a new ps3. it was added in one of the updates in the last few months.
also, if you have any downloads from the psn store you should probably deactivate each profile so that if your ps3 fails to turn back on you can still access your content when you get a new ps3 (if you have used up all 5 spots available).
the other option is once the ps3 fails, you pay about $100 to send it off to be repaired, get it back, then transfer your data to a new ps3.

Interesting.brocam wrote:now with the transfer utility you can move all of your content to a new ps3. it was added in one of the updates in the last few months.
But how do you do this since you wouldn't get the new PS3 until the old one is already gone and traded in?
And also, if you used up 5 PS3s for RB, can you still do this by deactivating a the PS3 you will trade in?

So basically Brocam you are saying I can go get the new PS3 slim and not have to worry about losing anything?
If so, we need detailed instructions on how so I dont mess up the group in case I trade it in.

No doubt.Cnasty wrote:So basically Brocam you are saying I can go get the new PS3 slim and not have to worry about losing anything?

The problem I'm thinking is he said something about a file transfer, but if you trade it in, I don't see how you can transfer,b ut who knows.
We definitely need VERY detailed instructions on this, if possible. And quickly so we can nab the slim PS3 before the deal is up.

From what I found at that link from searching, your going to need two ps3s at once so if you trade one in obviously you can't use it to transfer data. For example Cnasty, maybe you could transfer your shit onto someone's ps3 that you know (shel?) if they can accommodate the space and what not. Then when you get your slim just re-transfer it to your slim off shel's ps3 and shel can then delete all of your data off his. Of course, this all relies on shel and if he wants to. I'm afraid he'd feel like too much of a dick to say no.
I'm sure the process is actually a pain in the ass, too. So it's probably harder than it sounds and who knows if it's even going to work that well with this rock band library it sounds like you have.
Even if you keep your ps3, good news I guess is that if your ps3 sees dooms day and somehow it isn't YLOD and its just not reading discs or something, you could still turn it on and just transfer it between a new ps3 you might have to buy (if you didn't send broken one to sony) and the broken one.
