Thoughts on Gameplan Feature of NCAA

Post by cougnix »

I want to know what people think of this years Gameplan options on NCAA and if you use them. How you use them. If you despise them, or anything else. I think last years game brought out negative thoughts on the feature, and it is obvious they toned them down this version and that they counter what they were meant to in a realistic way.

Ones I use:

Oline Holding - Aggressive - allows me more time to throw against a good pass rush and blitz happy players.
Dline - Aggressive - user jump snap appears, but it really doesn't do anything. I found that a team that has 10 seconds to throw each time has 5 seconds with it turned on, I don't use it the whole time, but I try and mix it up.
Catching - Conservative - Dropped passes are ridiculous sometimes, but I'm not a big play guy anyway, so if I can get them to catch the ball I'm that much better.

Now here is something that isn't gameplan that is starting to concern me. I'm noticing more and more that guys are use the R1 to cover up the ball off the handoff and it is almost like a force field around the runner. I don't know how many times I've seen a RB squirt through the line and its like there isn't even a defender near him. Can we petition the government to prove the monopoly that EA has on sports games with Madden and NCAA and force some competition?

I don't know if guys have stopped using em, but I notice no difference at all.

I only use the conservative thing so I don't fumble and drop so many passes, no agressive stuff for me.

I don't have the game yet, but in '10, I used them situationally. For instance, on 3rd-and-12 (a situation I found myself in a lot), I could give a rat's ass about a holding call, so I'd put it on aggressive; and vice-versa on defense, I'd have everything but JUMP SNAP on aggressive when I was pinned deep. The only complaint I got was a series of "takes too long to snap the ball" comments.

On all american this year I have a feeling I'll be using them as my defense can't do shit but look stupid as someone runs by them.

Ah, I was wondering how long it would take for this topic to surface.

Here's the thing, unless its an aggressive D line nobody would EVER know who is and who isn't using the features. I would say to anyone who says "I don't use any of it" the same thing I would say to the guys who say they don't masturbate...BULLSHIT!! LIAR!!

At first I was upset that you at least weren't notified when your opponent was using an "aggressive feature". However, now that the game has been out a few weeks and I've taken a closer look, there are major drawbacks to each and every feature. Hence, I think that I'm ok, not that I would ever know, but I'm ok with whatever people want to do. Go ahead, set that ball carrier option to aggressive, set it to aggressive and fumble that bitch in the redzone.

I am not a fan of the D line one, user jump snap. Maybe a couple 5 yard penalties vs. constant hurried throws and 10 yard sacks is garbage.

Its all a moot point anyways, because its all hearsay.

Before the game I just ask my opponent if they use them or not. If they say no, I don't touch them (which has been the case every time, so I have yet to use any strategy features).

With USC on all american you don't need to use it.

I use three or four of them, the rest i leave alone. I don't see a problem with them. Because if you set them to aggressive there are major drawbacks, if you set them to conservative there are drawbacks, some severe, some not. i.e. catching aggressive you drop way more passes, conservative you break less tackles. Big run aggressive you are gonna fumble more often than you break a big one. With the blocking set to aggressive you are gonna get way more holding and clipping calls, set it to conservative and you can plan on running for your life.

It's on you to get those 5 yard penalties. Fake a snap or two or three if you feel like they are abusing it. That is the only way i know you can battle that. The drawback to setting it to aggressive is jumping offside more. But the DL isn't just gonna jump offside on their own, you have to make them. Fake a snap and snap it real quick and drop a forty yard bomb on someone and they'll change that shit real quick.

And if you fake a snap and the guy jumps, but doesn't cause a penalty, then they can't jump the snap when you do snap it.

And I didn't add this topic to be antagonistic, I just want to see what people think.

I don't care if I see user jump snap the whole freakin' game, it isn't an instant sack. I just think if a guy wants to use them, let them. I think its hilarious the direction they went with "Read" options this year. I have called "Read Run Right" on occasion and have guessed right and it's a 80 yard TD run, they didn't fix it, they made it not work at all...lol

I didnt see much diff when i messed with them when the game 1st came out

now the only thing i do is put catch on conservative

it APPEARS to be much more balanced than last year but the game seems to be fine without using most of them. With the lean toward defense this year I dont see why anyone would use aggresive on d line...especially after last years debacle regarding that issue. I would just stay away from it all together.

of note guys - I imagine ea will eventually fix their season showdown thingy. Once they do, we will again require it to be mandatory on.

Not for nothing and there will be no way to prove it but if you're winning alot now, then all of sudden we go to this and you're not so much, its gonna look suspicous.

Just saying....your online rep is prolly most important thing in this silly little virtual world of ours. dont tarnish it for a win or 2 extra.

keep everything in moderation, abstenence is even better :-)

I don't like them being used...just as you are trying to use them to help against better teams what if a better team used them on you.....would result in very unfair games where WR's are never open and everyone runs thru the Oline like it's tecmo bowl. And hold blocking is insane on outside runs.

really gets on my nerves someone turns on the play pass gamplan and also use play the pass so everyone route is being run by the DB's so u run with the QB and they get mad or all they do is jump snap or run commit and get mad if u run wildcat or sweeps/counters. Or the guy that breaks out for a TD but get a holding call as he stepping into the endzone. He gets mad and wants you to decline the pen because he say it's a AI flaw.

I think it just opens up to many problems

I dont use any of it besides the conservative catch because drops on AA are pretty bad.

This is a "mute" point since the showdown thing is off and anyone can be using every single one of them and we wont know.

I just have trust in my opponent that they arent using it.

Know if you play me though, I wont use any of them. Id rather win controlling it and not with the help of a lame EA addition.

I'll have my wrs catch on conservative, and maybe have the running the ball on conservative as well it if it raining. On defense I might make the zone depth short inside the redzone, but I personally find most the rest of them a bit cheesy, and if my opponent is using the jump the snap I'll calling fake snaps for 1st downs as long as they leave it turned on.
