Masoli
Re: Masoli
ncaa rules. If you have graduated from an undergraduate program and still have year(s) of eligibilty left, you can pursue a graduate level degree at another college granted the college you aren't originally enrolled at does not offer said major. Masoli wants to attend a Parks and Rec. Grad program, something not offered by Oregon. So we was allowed to do it at Ole Miss without losing eligibility. He will not however receive an athletic scholarship from Ole Miss.
It is a great rule for the 99.9% of NCAA athletes who have no intentions of going pro and just use athletics to help them higher there education. Masoli is not the norm here.

Re: Masoli
Hard to believe Oregon of all Schools wouldnt have a Parks and Rec program. With all the herb in that state and to the state above I did not see that coming.Uuaww wrote:ncaa rules. Re: Masoli
I'm sure he would have found or Ole Miss would create a degree program that Oregon did not offer.

Re: Masoli
A couple people have taken advantage of this, but like posted before, this might be the first time that the guy did decide to switch teams for education, but found a place to go after getting kicked off a team.
We did this with Kicker Stephen Hauska, who graduated from a D-II school, but used us to better his chances at getting a shot at the NFL (drafted and played for Baltimore)

Re: Masoli
this is where my gripes with the NCAA come in. situations like this they are WAYYY understaffed. i think there are like 8 people in the entire eligibility department in the NCAA. those are the people responsible for determining who is eligible for all sports, from what i understood back in college.Cnasty wrote:Man, took them that long and told the kid a couple days before kick off??

they made Charlie Villanueva wait like a month into the season his freshman year before they finally said, 'yup, you're fine, you can play'.

Re: Masoli
Yea, thats pretty brutal for the team as well.
Im sure he was taking the most snaps with the first team but hopefully Nutt had a backup plan in case of this.
Lets wait until the pre game meal next time.
Maybe he did know already but just announced? Thats giving the NCAA to much credit I guess.

Re: Masoli
The NCAA told Big Mike Williams while he was boarding a plane to Landover, MD in 2004.
Te more I think about this though the more I think Masoli will struggle in the SEC. He just6 is not an SEC QB IMO at all.

Re: Masoli
This is a good thing, he was clearly not going to Ole Miss because of any course offered. We all know he was only there in attempt to sidestep the consequences of his actions, good to see for a change the NCAA screwing someone who deserved it.
Re: Masoli
Forgetting that ... Ole Miss sucks this year and would have had a very hard time winning five games WITH a great QB.packsyD22 wrote:The NCAA told Big Mike Williams while he was boarding a plane to Landover, MD in 2004.

Re: Masoli
That and I dont watch a ton of Ole Miss games but they aren't a spread team right?
Masoli is a system QB and nothing more, he will struggle in Oxford.
