Re: steelcity/twins/Finally everyone is home with pictures!!
He has had a rough time, probably wont really know until he is 18. At first when we would go visit our son we would let him go spend time with grandparents but then when we would play with him, like cars, building things, he would start to act out and say dont leave me stay home with me. So the wife and I would switch everyother day one of us would go to the hospital and the other would stay with him. On the weekends we would give him the choice if he wanted to go with us to the hospital or stay with grandparents. We worked that all the way until Alec was moved to Denver on june 18, from then until he came home this past Monday we would stay with friends every weekend so he could play with there kids, he loved it. But this week since we have been home he misses playing with those kids, especially since the wife and I have been trying to get on a schedule with the medication and feedings for Alec. we have made time for him by going to the movies, going to chuckie cheese, etc since this has all started in February, but to be honest we really dont really know how he is doing with the situation or if we are doing a good job with him. This is one of those times where parents dont have a manual that shows them the right and wrong on how to handle things, you just have to go off what you see and what you feel and hope that eveyone knows that you are doing your best.trendon wrote:What is/was your oldest's take on everything that was happening?

The twins are 2 today!!!
Reading over this thread it is amazing that it has only been 2 years especially how it started out, but I am happy to report that all 5 of us have made it through everything and the twins are celebrating their 2nd birthday today. Alec has come a long way but he has overcome more than anyone thought he would. We met up with his Dr's when he was first diagnosed and they said it now that when he was first sick, in their professional opinions they didn’t think he would come through it alive, but they also said that with Kids it’s hard to determine what will happen when they are stricken with a life or death situation because, the power of life with kids is so strong that you can never rule out the fact that a child will pull through and live on especially when it looks like there is no hope.
Alec is progressing very well, the only thing he still has to use is a feeding tube for 14 hours out of the day, but the Dr's have been decreasing that every Dr visit because they strongly feel that he will be able to come off of it and eat and drink everything he needs through the mouth. Based off of their 18 month visit, Alec weighed 26 pds and he brother Jake comes in at 31pds, they visit the DR tomorrow so we hope and expect those will be a little higher.
Below is a picture of the family
Mom/Wife-Riss, Father/Dad/NDler, Myself(Joe), Alec is bottom Left, Jake is next and Big Brother Carter is on the Right.
