Update: PS3 again succumbs to YLOD

Post by Shiftdnb »

I got the dreaded YLOD of death tonight as I turned on my PS3. I looked at everything online about it and I had just emailed a local shop about getting it fixed. I wanted to get my copy of NCAA out so I did the "fan test" in which you hold down the eject button, turn on the switch in the back continuing to hold it down till it ejected. Well when it ejected it stayed green so I hooked up the video back to the unit and sure enough my PS3 is back to life. I put in NCAA and it played with no problems, so I ejected the disk and restarted the PS3 and it's still running. I'm sure it'll go down in time again but for now I dodged the YLOD.

well I left it on for about a half hour to see if it would hold up. It died again. Oh well, I have a request in to see how much it will be to repair. Thinking of going to get a new one and giving my girlfriend the fixed ps3 so we can game together during the week.

Mine crapped too, again. haven't tried the fan test thing to get my game out. I might do that tonight. Was gonna send it out today, but might hold up. This time when I get it back, I am gonna do my best to get the stuff off the hard drive and sell it and get a slim. I'm tired of this crap.

Well I went out and bought the 250 gb version. I figured it came with madden for the same price as the regular 250gb and was only 50 dollars more than new 160gb version. It's going to cost 100 to fix my old one and like I said I'll give it to my gf so we can play games during the week. She's into Rainbow 6 and is pretty active on Xbox.

Well I called Knights repair today and talked to them about my ps3. As nole said they recommend only 1 repiar and this would be #2. So if I send them my ps3 I can get a 120 GB slim for $175 plus shipping. An extra $20 and I get a 3 year warranty plus free transfer of files from old to new (if they can get it to work) I don't think is a bad deal, eh?

That's not a bad deal at all, considering the 3 year warranty.
