Rules Question
Rules Question
Was wondering the rules about kicking fieldgoals. This is really for the lower teams who can't kick very long field goals. When I have a field goal over about 40 yards my kicker can't make it, but I don't really want to punt from the 35 yard line because if I kick it in the endzone its a 15 yard punt. Just wondering if you can go for that pretty much anytime in the game or do you have to try the field goal or punt it. I've been giving the field goal a try because I don't want to be docked, but they return it like a punt because it comes up short everytime. Whatever is fine just was wondering if this has ever been brought up before and what I need to do. Thanks

Re: Rules Question
The 4th down rule states:
4-TH DOWN -- Because the game favors offense to defense it is much easier to achieve success on 4th down in the game as opposed to in real life. For this reason we restrict 4th down to realistic situations. Anywhere from your opponent’s 30-39 yard line is acceptable. 4th and one or less from your OWN 40 to your opponents goal line is acceptable. 4th down from the 5 and inside is acceptable. A 4th down hailmary at the end of the half is also acceptable. If you are leading by more than 14 points you must kick or punt the ball. If you are trailing by 28 or more at any time you can run no-huddle (except on dead balls) as well as trailing late in the 4th. Fakes are allowed within reason. Use good judgement. 4th and 13 from your own 35 in the 1st half is NOT acceptable to go for it or to fake.
I highlighted the key points...
When you are at the 30-39, the rule states that it is ok to go for it no matter how many yards you need for the first.
And I believe that was put in there for the exact reason you are asking.

Re: Rules Question
my guy cant kick a fg over 40 yards either
i'll punt it 99% of the time even if im at the 25 yard (rare occurence)
but i like to punt in that situation cause i know my guy cant hit the fg, if the defense stopped me, imo, they deserve the ball back and not have to stop me on a 4 downs in video game world (unless its 4th qtr and im down)
but above all that, the game as momentum like real life. you get stopped on a 4th down and its a long fight back, on the flip side, if you work on it, you can begin getting pretty good and pinning it inside the 10...inside the 5 with a good punter
at that point, you can play conservative on defense and make your opponent go 95 yards for a score
im conservative with my gameplay though
