2013 Season Capsules
2013 Season Capsules
These are hard to do, lol.
Albany Wild Ones
Last Year: 90-72 (1st) Lost in PLCS
Big Additions: MR Jose Carlos Ortiz
Big Losses: 2B Kurt Washington, SP Stan Hoffman
Best Pitcher: SP Bob Elliot
Best Fielder: CF Yukinaga Kamida
One of only four teams to make the playoffs every single year, the Wild One appear poised to make it a fourth trip. An offseason trade with Philadelphia landed the Wild Ones Ortiz - one ofthe best relievers in the game - and 20-year-old rookie third baseman Pat Johnson (the NDL's #8 prospect) went wild during the spring and will likely take over for incumbant Sam Keller.
Prediction: NDLB Series
Carolina Spartans
Last Year: 86-96 (4th) Won NDLB Series
Big Additions: SP Joe Lewis, CF Jarred Ballard, 3B Marc Hughes, MR Yoichi Sai
Big Losses: SP Jimmy Dickinson, 3B Estaban Jimenez
Best Pitcher: MR Jose Hernandez
Best Fielder: 1B Joe Telvest
The defending champions successfully stocked up without losing much of anything. The loss of Dickinson would have hurt more if he even pitched well enough for Carolina to begin with. Youngster Joe Lewis, acquired in a trade with New York, will likely fill Dickinson's departure, while Hughes brings the bat on the corner they sorely lacked with the now-departed Kazuyuki Takeuchi. Sai comes from Japan where he was a terror in the middle innings. Still a bit thin on starters, the Spartans will be looking to outslug anyone that gets in their way and leave it up to their incredible bullpen.
Prediction: Division Title
Chicago LOLCats
Last Year: 47-115 (8th)
Big Additions: SP Matt Francis
Big Losses: RF Harry Crabtree
Best Pitcher: SP Matt Francis
Best Fielder CF Wesley Brown
The cupboard is still bare in Chicago but not as bad as last season. CF Wesley Brown is poised to become a 40/40 man, but the LOLCats will need a miracle to win 65 games.
Prediction: Last Place in the PL
Concordia Tornadoes
Last Year: 68-94 (9th)
Big Additions: None
Big Losses: 1B Ira Adams
Best Pitcher: SP Jeff Hunter
Best Fielder: RF Paul Hoffman
The wheels flew off of the Concordia wagon last season after two straight playoff years. The mysterious disapperance of GM Tony Baldwin, the evacuation of half the coaches, and the bringing back of the same team that won 68 games is not a good sign.
Prediction: Last Place in the AL

Denver Dynamite
Last Year: 81-81 (3rd)
Big Additions: MR Jose Carlos Ortiz
Big Losses: RP Angelo Haggers,
Best Pitcher: RP Eugene Hogbin
Best Fielder: LF Kyle Edgar
The Dynamite have never made the playoffs and that won't change any time soon. Denver returns virtually the same exact team that wilted down the stretch in 2012. Under league control, the Dynamite will be lucky to stay out of last place.
Prediction: 6th in the league
Hartford Whalers
Last Year: 69-94 (5th)
Big Additions: RP Chris Casey, RP Aaron Jackson, RP Tony Foster, RF Harry Crabtree
Big Losses: RP Lucien Genest,
Best Pitcher: RP Tony Foster
Best Fielder: 1B Jaime Cruz
In 2012, Hartford finished last in the AL in the following categories: ERA, runs allowed, hits allowed, opponents AVG, and home runs allowed. Response? Sign one of the best closers in the game (Foster) and two decent options (Casey and Jackson) to compliment him. The offense can still rake and Hartford won't be as bad as usual, but it will struggle to see .500.
Prediction: 6th in the league
Las Vegas Gamblers
Last Year: 89-73 (2nd) Lost in Divisional Round
Big Additions: 3B Dwayne Wolf
Big Losses: SP Pat Harris, Manager Wes Straus,
Best Pitcher: RP Tony Foster
Best Fielder: SP Max Englund
The "win 11-10" days are over as GM Joe has turned around a franchise that was about to turn to ruin. The bullpen looks like it might still be a leaky mess, but they have frontline talent in the rotation with three guys who could win 20 games and have a sub-3.50 ERA. The only problem with Las Vegas is that they are stuck in a division with Albany and a league with Sheltown.
Prediction: Divisional Playoffs
Miami Marlins
Last Year: 65-97 (5th)
Big Additions: None
Big Losses: 1B Jacob Hicks
Best Pitcher: SP Lou Bartlett
Best Fielder: LF Juan Ortíz
The former Hammerheads moved to a new stadium, a new city, and with a new attitude ... they still finished with the exact same record as the disasterous 2011 season. They did cut a run off of their grisly 6.38 ERA from '11. If it doesn't go back up another run, it would be a major surprise as Miami was a non-player in the offseason.
Prediction: 7th in the League
Last Year: 81-81 (3rd)

Big Losses: RP Angelo Haggers,

Re: 2013 Season Capsules
this is sweet
say something about me being good but not good enough and i'm starting Vickers against you every game this season

Re: 2013 Season Capsules
The starting pitching is depleting quickly besides the 1/2 combo of Flores and Elliott. The loss of 2B K. Washington (via a trade for Ortiz) will hurt, as he has been a staple at the top of the order for the last 3 seasons. Losing 3B Pat Burkett (10 months) to injury during ST will kill the Wild Ones, but rookie Pat Johnson will/should fill in nicely. But it would've been nice having both of them in the lineup this season (one at DH, the other at 3rd). Sam Keller stays another season at SS, despite his questionable defense. Predicting the NDLB series for Albany? Thats a stretch, but hoping to get into the playoffs once again, and once in the playoffs, anything can happen.trendon wrote: Albany Wild Ones

Foster is not on my team and I doubt Englund is my best fielder.trendon wrote:Las Vegas Gamblers
