Why do I feel like I'm going into battle with guys that don't know which end of the gun to point at the other team?
I'm guessing we're going to be mostly Domination and Team Deathmatch?
If so, the strategies are somewhat simple, I believe.
Domination: Hold the one you start near and one other. That is it. Don't go for the third flag unless you're hopelessly behind and can't win with just 2. Keep a relatively even number of players near each flag, though you may get away with more people on the secondary flag and fewer on the home flag as that one is usually harder for the other team to get to and is where you're likely to spawn. Carry smoke as it is useful to cover a flag in smoke and crawl onto it rather than just stand there out in the open.
Team Deathmatch: For most people it will be better to stay in pairs. If you get the drop on the enemy together than your scattered shooting pattern is more likely to produce enough hits to take them down if two of you are spraying and praying together. Running around non-stop without being aware of areas you're running into is a recipe for disaster. Take note of where the enemy likes to hide and try to approach them from a direction they won't see you the next time. Be wary of large open areas as that is when you are most likely to get sniped. Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but in your living room. Don't be reckless with your life. Don't trust your life to others that are reckless with theirs. Don't carry a sniper rifle if you can't pick someone off in one shot. Be aware of the radar and don't get caught running toward an area of several red dots when you're on your own. Be aware of the other teams spy planes in the air and don't think you're hiding behind something because they know where you are. Accept the fact that you are old and the players you are playing against are 14 year-old kids that do nothing but come home from school and sit on this game for 6 hours every night. They will more than likely be better than you. But they will also likely flunk out of school. Laugh at them for this, but don't get killed while laughing. It is bad karma. Finally, work together. You are not nearly as strong on your own as you are when part of a mildly cohesive, primarily disfunctional team. Remember, your crazily fired spread of bullets can only hurt the other team. And wear sunscreen.
I read and agree with everything he said though. In domination, if you can keep either A or C (the one you start at) and capture B, you already know that they are coming to you. When you do not have to be the aggressive team in domination, it typically works to your advantage. Plus, if you let them have the area near the spawn that they do have, you can control where they will continue to spawn and not let them end up spawning behind you when you have all 3.

Winning at Domination is all about controlling 2 flags. My simple award winning strat is all you need to be a winner.
The entire game boils down to the B flag. That is it. You can lose A and C but they aren't hard to get back because you typically spawn at one of them.
So, to win the game, put your players on B. You should have people camping the B flag and camping the paths to the B flag. The other team spawns at their flag so you know where they are coming from. Learn the map and position yourself somewhere near B.
Use claymores to your advantage. Put them on the B flag. Put them in a path between the other team's flag and the B flag. If you are camping an area, put the claymore somewhere behind you so you don't have to worry about somebody looping around the map and getting behind you.
When you get killed, go to B.
Communication is the 2nd major part of Domination. Call out where the other team is. If you get killed near B, say "1 in B". That alerts everybody else that should be around B that the other team is near the flag.
When the other team takes A and C, don't panic. Don't everybody go try to get it back. Somebody will be spawning near a flag and they can go get it. You don't have to get the same flag back. If they take A then get C. By taking the 2nd flag, you dictate where they spawn.
