Re: Hurricane Irene
Rode out Isabel when I lived in Norfolk in '03. That was a Cat 5 that I think hit Hampton Roads (Newport News, Norfolk, Va Beach area) head on. No power for 6 days, work/research (at NASA Langley) was closed for a week. I drove around the day after the storm, almost no traffic lights were functioning, it was pretty chaotic. I think I spent half the time during day at the mall/movie theater downtown (they had power because they're lines were underground) in Norfolk. Weirdest was going to bed at 8:30 each night. Only light I had was a propane lantern.
Here's a shot of what the water level looking like at the Air Force Base/NASA Base where I was working:

Good luck everyone out there.

Gotta love our drunken drive through your apartment complex trying to avoid down power lines and trees and all that good stuff. That was a genius move there that we made.Cnasty wrote:That was madness.ajalves wrote:still remember having 3 of these hit us in a 5 weeks span about 7 years ago.....pretty directly too

Re: Hurricane Irene
What's the one thing they aren't making any more of? Land. Unless you're in Dubai, where they like doing shit like making islands.nick wrote:

Re: Hurricane Irene
been overcast and raining for almost the last 24 hours here, power blinked a couple times but nothing major. It dropping to a CAT 1 helped keep damage lower than what they thought a few days ago
