It is the catch as much as it is the lob itself. A good user db will knock it down 80% of the time.
Well that must be my problem, since falling in love with usering the DT, I suck when using a secondary player, as I run by the route 75% of time on crosses and such. And on the deep ball if it is lobbed and lead, I just find it hard to get my dbs to react as they seem to slow down at first and lose ground.. Or sometimes I m there but cant get them to raise their hands. I don't know I just suck really, I think that is the real reason.

@ AJ

I'm trying to visualize what you're saying there. If they are lobbing, how are they breaking the route off and doing something different? The only thing I can come up with is, on a streak, they lob it, angle the pass away from the defender, then user control the wr to the side away from the defender?

I was trying to do the same.

If the pass is straight downfield, a streak, how does one break off a route?

I think we're just not understanding exactly what he's saying here.

yes sir, turned off both Auto Settings.. Wish you could turn off man align.. But yes it is off as well as auto turbo. And when I say slow down, I mean as the ball gets near.
For instanced have you played the CPU where the qb lobs the shorter routes or crossing routes, and your defense seems to slow down before you click to them as the wr still runs at full speed or seems to get a slight boast to the ball. Well this is what happens to my dbs as well on the lob deep passes.. Makes me wanna cry, at times after playing solid D just to give up the deep ball even when I know its coming.

As far as man align, I might be wrong on this, but if you come out in man align and then you do the adjustment to turn it off (something L ->), it will remain off the rest of game until you use it again.

As for the speed thing, I've seen what you're talking about, but never had an issue with it on the deep routes. My biggest issues are A.) switching defenders and moving the stick thinking that I'm switching to one guy, only to watch another defender fly away and B.) completely botching the INT/Catch attempt by jumping too early/late.

The funny thing is, I really have to stop and think about where the buttons are when I see them typed, because NCAA is about the only game that I play (did play 2k this year) and everything now is just muscle memory. It's probably why I stunk when I tried the COD demo.

I think what AJ is talking about is when the ball is thrown deep, user takes control the receiver like 15-20 yards short of the drop circle, hammers R2 and like turbo loops around the DB, thus breaking his go route, and often doesn't even catch the ball still heading towards the end zone but on an angle towards the sideline or middle of the field.

Still not sure I am getting this. So the WR must be much faster than the CB to be able to do all this (run a longer route to a fixed point than the CB and then catch the ball heading in a different direction).

I think he's talking about how guys will take control of the wideout, sprint to near where the ball is going to arrive, kind of wheel outward/inward, and then cut in and jump to make the grab, as the defender isn't playing the wideout at that point, he's playing the ball. I've seen guys do it for years and it's lame.
