This actually doesn't make sense to me. It, in essence, creates the situation where you have people that want to remain part of the community (and the community would be happy to have them remain as a member), but that don't want to actually play in the seasons, but they're forced to, so you get more "deadbeat" owners.

So we instead hold board access over people's heads as a reason to stay and play a game they don't necessarilly (*EDIT*: well, not that they don't want to play, but that they'd be open to giving up their spot to someone that really wants to play in the league because they love the game) want to play just so they can keep hanging out with their internet friends. That seems like a bad model to follow.

Since I'd imagine that most people that stop playing don't want to stay on the boards, I'm not sure why this is even an issue really.

Joe, remind me to buy you a beer in Vegas and be your wingman since Nole failed miserably last time at Ghostbar for you.

Bravo.

I think I got 2 seasons of NDL:L in when I ran it in Spring '10. I don't remember how the Fall '10 went. I think the timing was rough and maybe drained some guys during the season. I didn't run NDL:L this Spring because most of us jumped into the 2k craze.

People in this thread alone have made it clear they are only in the league for the boards and the fringe stuff. if we let people drop without playing, 25-30 people would leave within 24 hours of abolishing the rule. another 25-30 before the 1st season was over

Exactly. This league would die in a heartbeat and it would simply become an online forum.

I think if EA would just put out a decent NCAA game again, then this would all become moot. The reason I live for FIFA is because of how amazingly SIM it is; NCAA isn't. Same thing for NBA 2K, guys loved it because of how SIM it was. That was the whole reason leagues like this were created, but EA is killing that desire because their games are getting to the point where "sim" isn't even possible sometimes! (teleporting DBs anybody?)

We all know the game is not the reason for the NDL.

Thats pretty obvious.

And Im not complaining that I have to play games to stay in the league, thats what the league is. Im fine with that. Im not a dead beat owner. I still schedule my games, do my recaps, all my coaches reports, and give easy wins to NDL coaches.

I am simply stating like we are discussing the evolution. I went from scrimming 5-10 games a day on the PS2 when I was working nights and had nothing at all to do during the days, to playing only league games and having better options of games available and doing other crap.

The game sucks, the NDL rules.

I sacrifice boredom and a chore of playing this game because I want to be in the NDL. Plain and simple.

case by case basis

we all know dan's case. he originally came in as shooter only

he's grandfathered

aj said it best

have to disagree with you dak. from a mgmt standpoint, its a necessity for the league as a whole

While this is being discussed so nicely, I really encourage you guys who normally "just" play football to jump in the fringe league/groups.

makes things a lot more fun

If guys read nothing else in here, I hope they see this. Doing Dynasties, NDL:L and 2k definitely helped me to branch out and find even more coaches in the league that I really enjoy playing against. Right off the top of my head I think of BiggSteve and bigred as 2 guys that I played a lot of 2k with, trying to learn the game together. I wish I had a clue how to play shooters, because that would be great too. Really looking forward to FIFA and the crew that is signed up for that.
