Dragon Age: Origins - Awakenings

So I'm only about two years behind on playing this but I had picked up a copy of the Ultimate Edition (Origins + Awakenings + All DLC) on an sale on the EA website for ~$25 a while ago and just started really playing over the weekend.

Very solid so far (11 hours in). I didn't even realize it but I've done two of the DLC missions already. I'm guessing they scale the difficulty of the DLC to your level to make it challenging, but not impossible, to complete whenever you get into it. Also enjoying the fact that there's more than one way to go on most missions, though since I'll never play through again I doubt I'll see what the other side to each mission results in.

The only thing I don't get is choosing the party members. Is there any real point to rotating people through in your party or can you just roll with the same 3 extras (in addition to your main character) the entire time and not worry about the other ones?
