Remaining Schedule

Post by trendon »

As we have done before, once the calendar turns, we up the tempo until Spring Training begins. Please see the new schedule. Also note that DFA time is increased to 45 days until Opening Day.

Tuesday: Sim until 1/25; second-to-last chance to clean up 40-man
Wednesday: Sim until 2/15; last chance to clean up 40-man & last chance to set your overall scouting budget
Thursday: Sim until Spring Training; your active roster is now your 40-man roster; set lineups
Friday: Part one of Spring Training
Saturday: Part two of Spring Training
Sunday: Part three of Spring training
Monday: Part four of Spring Training
Tuesday: Get active roster down to 25, sim one day until Opening Day
Wednesday: Opening day

For the new guys, you may be wondering, "what is so important about getting my 40-man pared down?" The reason this is so important is that - assuming 12 works the same way as 10, which I am pretty sure it does - your spring training roster will be everyone on the 40-man. OK, so what?

The problem will be when you try and send these guys down. You may have to waive some guys, some guys might refuse the demotion, and you may burn an option. So, you can try and get them through waivers now or make a trade.

Things to know about Spring Training

- During Spring Training, the active roster limit is removed, and any players on a team's secondary roster can be moved onto the active roster without recording major league service time. Before Opening Day, you must reduce the number of players on your active roster back to 25.

- Rust: Each player in OOTP has a certain amount of 'rust' after an offseason. For each at-bat or inning pitched during Spring Training, a player shakes off some of that rust. Therefore, it is important to make sure all your key players get at least some playing time during Spring Training, because rusty players won't perform well.

- Learning New Positions: Players learn positions much more quickly when they play them during Spring Training. See Learning New Positions for more information about new positions. Additionally, players are slightly more susceptible to injuries during Spring Training.

can we please set it so guys arent automatically called up for spring training.

I find it hard to believe in real baseball, sending someone down after or during spring training affects their options

And I believe we only have evidence of one pitcher in the NDLB doing so.

It is pretty crazy that this isn't something you ca focus or work on with a trainer. I've had guys with outrageous stamina and basic pitching qualities with two really good pitches go as starters in Rookie, SA, and A, racking up ~600 innings pitched, and they never learn a third pitch. So dumb. Every season all you hear about in spring training is "so-and-so is working on a new curveball" etc.

Trendon, can you do a late sim tonight? Kids basketball practice will keep me late probably. Should be able to get to it about 7:30 or 8pm PST. If that's too late, just do it. Only thing I really need to do is clean up my 40 man with the acquisitions I made.

This is a fun one. I don't know.

In previous versions: On the day Spring Training started, the active roster was expanded and every one your 40-man roster players were automatically yanked up, resulting in some people having issues with suddenly having six guys with no more options needed to be sent down.

Current version: Two weeks before ST starts, we see an active roster with 40 available slots but nobody came up automatically. It looks promising but I can't tell what happens on Spring Training Day #1

Yeah, me too since I always load up my 40-man to avoid the Rule 5 Vultures.

Two teams did not upload so we can't skip a day. Sim will be tomorrow at 10PM or as soon as the two teams have uploaded. Uploading a new file that advanced a day, giving the other teams another chance to get down to 25 men. Please read the next sentence carefully. Excepting special circumstances, the only teams that should be downloading this new file are the ones who did not upload one today.

So we're losing a day?

Why not sim tomorrow to opening day and the first 7 days also?

I already simmed the day when I realized and it is a PIA to go back. You aren't losing a day. Your lineups are already set. Everything is fine.
