Re: NBA Thread
i mean, i can't possibly fathom how anyone can take off their hate/love glasses and look at the production from the 2 players in almost EVERY category and still think Kobe compares.
Kobe isn't even the 2nd best player all time playing right now.
Duncan, Paul and Wade (edit: and Garnett) are all as good if not better players than Kobe is over the course of their careers.
i say this everytime, so pardon the broken record, but Kobe has NEVER been the best player for any one season throughout his entire career. his greatness comes from his ability to be so consistently excellent over such a long period of time.

Wade gets almost zero talk about being all time better than Kobe.DRiccio21 wrote:Wade
But all Kobe really has is the titles and the longevity. Granted, the longevity is a biggie.
Wade has been produced more and done so more efficienty over his career.

Is that due to his competition or because he was the biggest name back then?LetsGoPeay wrote:Chamberlain is grossly overrated.

i would agree as well.ajalves wrote:i agreeLetsGoPeay wrote:Chamberlain is grossly overrated.
but its hard to argue with his dominance. he's not a top 5 player. but he's certainly in the top 20. the fact he did it against 6'7 guys is absurd tho and why i hate comparing him to guys of today's game.
imagine that Bill Russell is the same size as Paul George pretty much. Paul George is a 2 and Russell is considered the greatest defensive center ever. its crazy.

Re: NBA Thread
its like me playing in my 11 year olds league on 9 foot rims. I'd be the best defensive center of all time and I'd have a 100 point game to y credit as wellDRiccio21 wrote:i would agree as well.ajalves wrote:i agreeLetsGoPeay wrote:Chamberlain is grossly overrated.

damn, i'm not sure i can dominate on 9 ft rims... can we drop that to 8 for me please? i need to be able to drop step dunk on your kids.ajalves wrote:

there is an elementary school in the area that has 4 full courts. 2 at 10 foot, 1 at 9 and 1 at 8. we used to go there in high school and play some crazy games. Of course that was 20 years ago

and these were the kind of outside rims that were impossible to make a shot from the outside on, but you could have 2 guys hang on the rim and not hurt them at all

Re: NBA Thread
Where do we draw the line on that?
What about players who are just born faster, bigger, stronger?
Does Shaq get bumped down because he was just naturally bigger than every other center, so it was easier for him to dominate them.

Re: NBA Thread
there is no line. this is why i can't compare it. another one of my favorite lines is that if Jason Richardson played in the 1950's he'd have been the greatest player who ever lived.shel311 wrote:Where do we draw the line on that?

but there were 50 other NBA centers that were either 7ft or 300 lbs when Shaq was playing. i'd venture to guess there weren't more than 5-10 others that were as big as Wilt back then.

But he had 2 left feet filled with 10 right big toes. Babies coming out of the womb has more coordination than him.nick wrote:Shawn Bradley.. 7'6... i mean, not too many 7'6 NBA'ers right? So I'm willing to guess he dominated no?... oh...

Re: NBA Thread
Gotta be honest, I don't recall seeing 5-10, much less 50 centers Shaq's size.DRiccio21 wrote:but there were 50 other NBA centers that were either 7ft or 300 lbs when Shaq was playing
he was closer to 350 than he was to 300, at 7'1".
I just never saw those guys. Shaq was noticeably bigger than just about every center he faced in his prime.
