BCS Results
Re: BCS Results
pretty close finish between #2 and #3 team there.. congrats to the top 5 teams there for excellent seasons.
And side note, what is up with the over generosity of the league voting these small schools in the top 25. When did the league become so nice, I mean seriously nothing against FIU but they have no business being in a BCS game, I mean I dont even think they won the Sun Belt Conference.
6 mid majors voted in the top 25 in both Media and Coaches, never thought I see the day, when in the past is almost impossible to crack the top 25 with a mid major unless you were a TCU, BSU, or Houston, or had a few big wins along the way.
Come on guys do you really think these small schools could put together these same seasons with their teams in a conference with more talented teams.

Re: BCS Results
Nevada and Boise make sense, they were surging then faded late, Buffalo just seems like a quiet troll to me.6ftdeep wrote:pretty close finish between #2 and #3 team there.. congrats to the top 5 teams there for excellent seasons.

FIU is this year's NIU, sans a conf championship.

Sub FAU for NIU in real life and its called "it is what it is" . They finished in the top 16 and ahead of at least one conference champion from an automatic qualifying conference which means they get the invite.

I thought about that.. Iroc already mentioned it.. but Illinois in real life actually won their conference. So it is not really the same thing. But aside one mid major making the BCS Bowl, there were 6 ranked Mid Majors that is a new trend in this league that I found odd compared to seasons past.

Yup, can't blame FIU for taking care of business and taking full advantage of the system we have in place.. As far as #22 Bufalo, I'd say he deserves to be where he's at... Dude has a top #10 Offense, is undefeated in the MAC and was crowned Conference Champ. I'd say that warrents his top 25 finish.. IMO

I dont blame FIU, I blame the pollsters.
I could see a couple of small schools getting into the polls in the late teens. And rewarding them for having a great season with 1 loss records and conference champs or whatever.
With the reasoning you gave for a #22 Buffalo, I could see someones reasoning for voting them there. But they also played no team of real consequence 118th SOS.
You have one mid major who is in the top 25 with 8 sims.
Nevada had a statement win being OKST.
CSU, SDSU, FIU, and to a lesser extent BSU could all make cases for being ranked. But in the top 15 is stretch, and all of them to be ranked is just surprising. They all had strong seasons record wise, 2 of them even has wins over lower tiered BCS schools, but the strong SOS of the lot is 82nd.
I dont have a problem with mid majors making it into the top 25. People are rewarding them for good seasons. I was just making the point that these is a new trend compared to how people voted in the past, which was people were much tougher on non bcs schools, and actually took who they played into consideration and not just record.
And that is all I ll say about it, as I step down from my soap box.
Everyone can vote how they please, and they will do so.

You can't expect guys to be viewing the schedules of 40 or so teams to see who has had games simmed, just won't happen.

There should be a End Of Season Simmed Game Thread. "Not it."shel311 wrote:You can't expect guys to be viewing the schedules of 40 or so teams to see who has had games simmed, just won't happen.

It would be nice to see a bit more research put into voting, granted the system of the current BCS is a large part of the issue.

Doesn't help that the voting timer is running before the conference title games get played and the final Massey rankings come out.

I like the part where UCONN doesn't go to the BCS.

Re: BCS Results
I waited till all the games were played, I think it was like still 2 days till the polls closed. I took 10 minutes at the most to look at the schedule of every team I voted for, or though about voting for. Nothing personal against anyone, but to be clear I find it crazy that this is not taken a bit more seriously.WooPigSooie316 wrote:fsupenguin wrote:It would be nice to see a bit more research put into voting, granted the system of the current BCS is a large part of the issue.

I counted 5 mid majors and I think all were deserving. FIU and CSU just benefitted from losses by BCS schools late in the season.

Re: BCS Results
Hey guys, just got home from work and checking out the bowls. Awesome job once again from the staff here I must say, but I have one huge question. How in the world does FIU make the bcs game ahead of colorado st? I thought that the rule about being ranked above a bcs school blah blah blah only took effect if the non bcs school won their conference. FIU doesn't even win their conference and takes the game above Col. St.? Just wondering. Good luck everyone on their bowl games...

Should have been 6, FAU got snubbed. I had a 9-1 streak to finish the season, knocking off two undefeated teams in Troy and Florida International. lol.ChampDizzle wrote:I counted 5 mid majors and I think all were deserving. FIU and CSU just benefitted from losses by BCS schools late in the season.
