i love Ray Lewis, but the one thing that bugs me about him is this God shit he goes off on. "God wanted us to win!", if God exists, I honestly doubt he's watching the outcome of an American Football game and not monitoring the millions of starving kids around the kid. Add into the fact that Ray Lewis is a murderer, or accessory, and ya, just looks ridiculous to me.

They can all do what they want, Dave. But in Ray's case, I think it makes him look clearly selfish/self-centered and that's one of the few qualities in a person that I really dislike.

selfish and self centered is something i think should be left for guys who think they are better than others, that their life is more important than another mans. Ray is arrogant, cocky, confident, attention whore: maybe. but not self centered/selfish, imo.

i'm a prick, arrogant, cocky, etc and i'm one of the most selfless people you'll ever meet. there is a big difference.

Taking my u bias away, which is near impossible I know, the dude is everything I love about sports and football.

I watch sports to be entertained, he entertains the shit out of me and he is actually one of those guys that backs up his antics with ridiculous playing ability.

I think there a slight difference between moral standing and rooting for players that are involved in major crimes. If we were all bashing on Ray because he had 10 kids with 10 women, that would be a moral issue. But rooting for him when he was an accessory to murder (or rooting for Vick after his criminal past) is a little different.

IMO there is a difference between Vick and Lewis, Vick admitted to and paid his time for the crime.
So I have no problem with Vick.


But in my opinion...

Everything a football player should be

to me, that also means being a stand up citizen outside of the game of football.

There are kids that look up to him as a role model and what kind of example has he set? That you can make millions and pay to get out of crimes.
Players like Peyton Manning or Dan Marino, those are the types of players that are everything a football player should be in my opinion.

They are great players on the field and never in trouble off the field and they are great role models for kids.

I agree AJ, kids should look up to their parents, but in many situations where you have single moms raising kids and the kid does not have a dad in their life, they look up to and aspire to be just like certain athletes.


With all of that said though, I do want to make it clear that I agree with you guys that on the field, Ray Lewis is outstanding and a hall of famer.

Michael Phelps is without a doubt one of the greatest Olympians ever, but he would have never competed in the 2012 London Olympics had it not been for Ray Lewis' words of encouragement. Phelps was present for the Ravens AFC Championship win over the New England Patriots on Sunday, and afterwords said that had it not been for Ray Lewis serving as such an inspiration to him, he may not have competed in London and may never have broken the medal record he owns today. Phelps is a Baltimore native, so it's easy to see why Lewis was his inspiration. But Ravens fan or not, wasn't yesterday awkward enough when it came to Ray Lewis, to then all of a sudden have Michael Phelps show up and fawn over how much of an inspiration Lewis is to humanity?

As part of the deal, he also pleads guilty to obstruction of justice (for telling people in his limo to keep quiet) and receives a year of probation.
