COD4 vs CODW@W

Post by pounddarock »

I know, I know..late to the party. I searched around here and didn't see any head2head discussions. Here's the scenario:

I'm getting tired of NCAA Football...I want a good game that I can get into (graphics, realism, etc.)

I've never been a huge shooter guy, but loved R6V2 and found a new enjoyment for them. I've NEVER played COD before..any of them.

So I've seen guys say COD4 has been the best and most realistic shooter ever. I've heard CODW@W is pretty much the same game. There isn't really a major difference in price between the two. I've tried Brothers in Arms:HH and the new Battlefield:BC and both just seemed too PC-ish and weren't smooth.

I'll be playing this mainly offline, but I'd love to jump online every now and then to see how it runs.
SO:
1. Do either have offline multiplayer?
2. Which is more "new" user friendly?
3. Better graphics and smooth play?
4. Most realistic? ( I enjoy when I have to tell my wife to "shhhh" when I'm trying to sneak up on a guy ;) )
5. Overall experience?

Any advice would be great..I might be able to get COD4 $5-$10 cheaper if that makes a difference.

THANKS GUYS!

Being able to shoot the shit with the NDL guys outweighs any decision on any other game.

I havent done it as of late, but its a freakin blast.

Wasn't sure which one everyone was playing..that does make a big difference when it comes to jumping online and shooting the shit...I guess if anything I can add to your kill counts ;) I think I'll look for CODW@W

...any cautions picking up a used one from ebay or whatever..I heard rumors of COD4 having some serious problems with freezing or whatever. Thanks again guys and hopefully I'll see you soon online.

yes, but Sony uses bluetooth, I actually use my cellphone bluetooth headset for my ps3 as well. Got it for around 30 bucks. And yes, you can adjust so it comes through the TV or headset.

guys, hes looking for the best offline experience, which is without a doubt CoD4. the only thing better about WaW's online is the fact that the majority plays it.

OK..now this makes it interesting, and yes this is what I'm looking for if I'm going to spend the money for great gameplay (mainly offline). I might just pass on this game altogether with MLB09 coming out...but would like to have a good shooter game on hand. They do have offline multiplayer right?

...This guy

BTW, am I better off getting the Game of the Year edition or does it not matter. I've noticed a higher price for COD4 GOTY Edition on ebay. Thanks in advance for the help.

GotY edition just includes the map pack i think, so i would say just get the regular version. And yes, both versions include 4 player offline multiplayer.

If this makes any difference, Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 2 (the sixth installment of the series) will be released during the fourth quarter this year. That's still a good at least 8 months away, but this game is apparently going to be a sequel to COD4. Hopefully they will combine the offline components of COD4 with the new online components of CODW@W.

Thank you all for your help. I certainly have figured out that COD4 is the way to go, especially now realizing that there will be a sequel out for it and that W@W is just another WWII game that I'm tired of. I hope to get this game soon as I've been able to find a few on ebay for around $40 bucks.

Here is your best bet...GREAT offline play, and you usually wont have a problem jumping online and finding an ndl guy to play.
